Assembled from the wisdom of 36 legendary art teachers – all of them artists or critics at the top of their field – Akademie X: Lessons in Art + Life is an ideal curriculum for the aspiring artist. Each of the book’s "tutors" has provided a unique lesson that aims to provoke, inspire and stimulate the aspiring artist. These lessons cover some combination of the following: technical advice (e.g. don’t make a sculpture bigger than your studio door), assignments (some of which will take five minutes to complete, others five years), tips for avoiding creative ruts (including suggestions for mind&hyphen;expanding materials to read, watch or listen to), principles of careful looking (demonstrated with images of artworks, photographs, films or even billboard advertisements), advice on the daily practice of art (how to balance time alone in the studio with building an artistic community), career pointers (how to prepare for a studio visit from a curator or gallerist) and personal anecdotes (e.g. stories from the instructor’s own humble beginnings). Taken together, these lessons offer the reader a set of tools for thinking, seeing and living as an artist. Not only is Akademie X: Lessons in Art + Life the first illustrated text book of its kind for artists, but it will also appeal to anyone interested in contemporary art, providing first hand revelations into the philosophies and techniques of some of the world’s best artists and writers.

Olafur Eliasson's take on Louisiana is radical, fascinating and unique. The central work in the first solo exhibition at the museum by the Danish-Icelandic artist is a huge, sitespecific project that reverses the relation between nature and art. The transitions between inside and outside, culture and staged nature, become fluid and transitory - and the progress of the visitor through the museum becomes a central issue. Eliasson's exhibition is an enhancement of our gaze at the museum, at ourselves and at the world. Olafur Eliasson's exhibition at Louisiana engages with the museum's unique identity. The exhibition consists of three sections that each thematize the encounter between Eliasson's art and Louisiana as a place. The central work, Riverbed (2014), is based on the unique connection between nature, architecture and art that characterizes the museum. Transforming the entire South Wing into a rocky landscape, Eliasson focuses on inhabiting space in a new way and inserts new patterns of movement into the museum. Studio Olafur Eliasson - Open House is one of Eliasson's contributions to the Venice Biennale 2017. The artist's book is the seventh volume in the studio's TYT [Take Your Time] series. This self-portrait of the studio gives an idea of how Eliasson's artworks are made and thought about before they enter museums, collections, public space, and the world. In doing so, the publication reverses the relationship between final artworks and artistic processes and includes conversations with many members of the studio team, texts by friends of the studio, and quotes from texts and books that inspire the studio's current research.

The wealthy Governor Saxa, of the great city of Carce, has generously subsidized a theatrical/religious event. During this elaborate staging of Hercules founding a city on the shores of Lusitania, dark magic turns the panoply into a chilling event. The sky darkens and the waves crash in the flooded arena. A great creature rises from the sea: a huge, tentacled horror on snake legs. It devastates the city, much to the delight of the crowd. A few in the audience, although not Saxa, understand that this was not mere stagecraft, but something much darker and more dangerous. If all signs are being read right, this illusion could signify a dreadful intrusion of supernatural powers into the real world. Saxa’s son, Varus, has been the conduit for such an event once before. This new novel is as powerful and elaborate as that fantastic theatrical event, a major fantasy for this year.

Content through contact between landscapes and artworks, bodies and weather conditions, light and darkness. Over the years, Danish-Icelandic artist Olafur Eliasson (b. Copenhagen, 1967; lives and works in Berlin and Copenhagen) has continually returned to Iceland to investigate its landscape with his camera. The ambitious, ongoing venture--almost cartographical in its scope--has resulted in approximately eighty photo series to date, and a wealth of individual photographs of glaciers, waterfalls, rivers, volcanoes, and caves. Far from merely documenting the terrain, Eliasson's vibrant images reflect on our relationship to nature, the physical space in which we exist, and the body's felt motion through the space--central concerns in his oeuvre. Alongside Eliasson's photographs, this lavishly designed book in large format presents a selection of further works by the artist, granting the reader a glimpse into the process of inspiration leading from physical experience to abstraction. The sequence of images, curated by Eliasson himself, traces the intuitive connections between the landscape and the different modes of expression employed by the artist.

Following the spectacular exhibition of his work in London, Olafur Eliasson (*1967) will be presenting at the beginning of 2020 an entirely new installation specifically developed for Kunsthaus Zürich. It is precisely these works by the Danish-Icelandic artist that attract viewers as if by magic. Olafur Eliasson points out that his core interest is the experience of the physical encounter with the work itself. For years, he has been one of the most important contemporary artists addressing early on the theme of sustainability and now appeals to a large number of viewers with his themes on ecological issues. The book and exhibition therefore revolve around our relationship with other species and life forms on Earth. Olafur Eliasson's advocacy of a worldview of coexistence and collaboration becomes ever more apparent when he transforms the museum space into an immersive installation engaging our senses. We are reminded of scientific arrangements that explore physical natural phenomena such as light, water, movement and reflection, without remaining in the abstract or formal framework of purely scientific experiments. The immediate experiential space that the artist creates prevents this, while generating an enduring resonating space on themes such as climate change, migration and the exploitation of our planet's resources. Olafur Eliasson is based in Berlin where he has established Studio Olafur Eliasson, a laboratory for spatial research. His work explores the relationship between individuals and their surroundings, as experienced in his awe-inspiring large-scale installation The weather project (2003) at Tate Modern, London. Kjetil Thorsen is co-founder of Snoehetta, one of Scandinavia's leading architectural practices, with offices in Oslo and New York. The Bibliotheca Alexandrina, Egypt 1995-2001, is the commission that brought Snoehetta to international acclaim.
