Blanche Wittman var pasient hos J M Charcot som ble verdensberømt for sin hypnosebehandling av hysteripasienter. Blanche og Charcot hadde også et kjærlighetsforhold. Senere ble Blanche Marie Curies assistent, og hennes fortrolige, ikke minst når hun vikles inn i en skandaløs kjærlighetsaffære. "Livlegens besøk" og "Lewis reise" fins på norsk av samme forfatter. Den førstnevnte fikk den prestisjefylte svenske "August-prisen" i 1999.
