This book reports initial efforts in providing some useful extensions in - nancial modeling; further work is necessary to complete the research agenda. The demonstrated extensions in this book in the computation and modeling of optimal control in finance have shown the need and potential for further areas of study in financial modeling. Potentials are in both the mathematical structure and computational aspects of dynamic optimization. There are needs for more organized and coordinated computational approaches. These ext- sions will make dynamic financial optimization models relatively more stable for applications to academic and practical exercises in the areas of financial optimization, forecasting, planning and optimal social choice. This book will be useful to graduate students and academics in finance, mathematical economics, operations research and computer science. Prof- sional practitioners in the above areas will find the book interesting and inf- mative. The authors thank Professor B.D. A New Computational Approach

Optimal Control Models in Finance

This useful and well-organised text presents a great deal of information that can quickly be adapted for clinical facility. It precisely lays out the indications and applications for ear acupuncture, the characteristics of point selection, and the principles of prescription formation. Using charts and descriptions, anatomical areas and points on the external anterior and posterior surface of the ear are described and depicted. Each is identified with an English name and the international standard nomenclature for point reference. The distribution patterns and classification, and standard names, locations, and indications for roughly 87 ear points are provided. The theoretical basis and methods of ear diagnosis, including inspection, palpation, and electrical detection are described. Diagnostic indicators for 100 commonly seen internal and external diseases, OB/GYN diseases, dermal diseases, and EENT disorders are delineated. A variety of therapeutic methods are covered: seed acupressure, filiform needling, intradermal needle implantation, electroacupuncture, plum blossom needling, bloodletting, medicine injection, ear moxibustion, ear massage, medicated plasters, and magnet therapy. There is an extensive section dealing with treatments for more than 132 common disorders. Each includes a treatment prescription (primary and supplementary points), therapeutic methods (listed above, and selected according to appropriate indications), and clinical notes. Case studies with commentaries, from the clinical records of Dr. Yang Yun Bi, a physician at Huang Shan Medical School in Anhui Province, PRC, have been included where they correspond to the disorders presented.

Modern Chinese Ear Acupuncture

The Principle of Large Numbers indicates that macro fluctuations have weak microfoundations; persistent business cycles and interrupted technologies can be better characterized by macro vitality and meso foundations. Economic growth is limited by market extent and ecological constraints. The trade-off between stability and complexity is the foundation of cultural diversity and mixed economies. The new science of complexity sheds light on the sources of economic instability and complexity. This book consists of the major work of Professor Ping Chen, a pioneer in studying economic chaos and economic complexity. They are selected from works completed since 1987, including original research on the evolutionary dynamics of the division of labour, empirical and theoretical studies of economic chaos and stochastic models of collective behavior. Offering a new perspective on market instability and the changing world order, the basic pillars in equilibrium economics are challenged by solid evidence of economic complexity and time asymmetry, including Friedman’s theory of exogenous money and efficient market, the Frisch model of noise-driven cycles, the Lucas model of microfoundations and rational expectations, the Black-Scholes model of option pricing, and the Coase theory of transaction costs. Throughout, a general theory based on complex evolutionary economics is developed, which integrates different insights from Marx, Marshall, Schumpeter, Keynes and offers a new understanding of the evolutionary history of division of labour. This book will be of interest to postgraduates and researchers in Economics, including macroeconomics, financial economics, advanced econometrics and economic methodology.
