La presente obra se articula en torno a la conmemoración de los sesenta años de la aparición del libro Insight de Bernard Lonergan. Insight recoge la tradición socrática del autoconocimiento, que pasa por Pascal y llega a su plenitud en Kierkegaard, pero lo hace articulándose con otras grandes tradiciones. La propuesta de Lonergan puede orientar nuestra política cultural, especialmente en nuestros esfuerzos educativos. Insight dio las bases de un método empírico generalizado, un método trascendental que quiere alcanzar un universal concreto, que quiere asumir plena y radicalmente la historia, sin negar la universalidad del espíritu humano. Es este espíritu transcultural, interdisciplinario, cosmopolita, ecuménico, el que permea los ensayos de este libro, que trata de abarcar la totalidad de la obra de Lonergan, así como sus múltiples facetas. El hilo conductor lo podemos encontrar en torno a la pertinencia de la propuesta lonerganeana para las tareas educativas a las que debemos hacer frente. Una propuesta humanista se caracteriza por defender lo irreductible del ser humano frente a enfoques totalizantes. No debemos nunca perder de vista que la educación es algo que debe ser personalizante y vocacional. Que los sujetos a educar no son números, ni clientes, ni salones, son un tú, un rostro, y que el asunto no es lonerganizar, sino la autoapropiación de cada uno, de cada tú.
