Robert W. Scribner (1941-1998) was one of the most stimulating and innovative social historians of the German reformation and of early modern Europe. This volume offers a representative selection of texts with an overview of the key issues, approaches, and results from his research. The focus of Scribner's work lies in the form of folklore and folk belief during the late Middle Ages, in which he was particularly interested. Scribner's writing strongly influenced religious, cultural, and art historical research on reformation and popular belief.
