This monograph employs new data to re-assess the relative merits of various contending models that address the change in the probability of dying between the ages of 80 and 120 years of age. The book analyses the population data of thirteen countries, all of which have the sufficiently long data histories necessary to draw solid conclusions.

Presents a description of the mortality of the oldest-old in the post-war era. This study examines mortality by single years of age. It is combined into 10-year periods in order to secure meaningful numbers of observations at ages where they are few.
