«En 2007, nous avions fait paraître aux Éditions Gallimard un ouvrage collectif intitulé Pour une littérature-monde, où nous rappelions que la littérature n'était pas compressible à l'intérieur de frontières. Ce livre, par son écho, a contribué à faire évoluer notre perception d'une littérature de langue française outrepassant les limites de l'Hexagone. Le débat continue, sous des déguisements parfois inattendus. En cette année où l'on veut célébrer le cinquantième anniversaire des indépendances africaines, voilà que le débat, en France, se replie frileusement sur les contours d'une "indentité nationale". Chaque être est un millefeuille, autrement dit un livre composite, qui ne peut se réduire à cette fiction identitaire nationale. "Je est un autre", lançait il y a longtemps un poète fameux. Et cela est encore plus vrai aujourd'hui, en une époque de fantastiques télescopages culturels, tandis que naît un monde nouveau où chacun, au carrefour d'identités multiples, se trouve mis en demeure d'inventer pour lui-même une "identité-monde". A comienzos del siglo XVII, el Rey Bakongo designa al primer emba jador africano en el Vaticano, Nsaku Ne Vunda, con misión secreta. Su trayecto a Roma no será sencillo; de entrada, el barco que lo llevará tiene que pasar antes por el Nuevo Mundo cargando esclavos; hecho que inaugura el periplo fuera de serie de Nsaku Ne Vunda, un personaje fundamental pero olvidado por la Historia, que tuvo una odisea interminable por un océano, dos mares y tres continentes. La novela está narrada por el busto de mármol que de él existe en Roma. No por nada este libro es ya esencial para las escuelas francesas, obtuvo diversos premios y se adaptó al teatro. Después de publicarse en Angola, se erigió una estatua en honor a Nsaku Ne Vunda, y una calle obtuvo su nombre en la ciudad de Mbanza Kongo. No es para menos.

Un océano, dos mares, tres continentes

In Borders, Jean-Michel André questions the notion of border, a question which takes the form of a wandering, whose starting point is in the Jungle of Calais on the eve of the evacuation of the slum in 2016. André pursued the project over three years in France, Italy, Spain and Tunisia - anywhere there were refugees in search of shelter, anywhere there were men, women and children brought together by the same hope of crossing one final stretch of water. With these images of the Jungle, he mixes various fragments of landscapes to form a visual palimpsest. These silent places never cease to signify partition, rupture and desolation and exhale the vertigo of emptiness. Desires from elsewhere become dust and smoke in these spaces where the human figure, photographed isolated and from behind, is located on a threshold, between reality and imagination, memory and present.With accompanying texts by writer Wilfried N'Sondé, whose novels follow similar themes, together André and N'Sondé combine their disciplines the creation being Borders which is neither a linear series nor narrative - rather a collection of works.

What are the limits of empathy and forgiveness? How can someone with a shameful past find a new path that allows for both healing and reckoning? When Clovis and Christelle find themselves face-to-face on a train heading to the outskirts of Paris, their unexpected encounter propels them on a cathartic journey toward understanding the other, mediated by their respective histories of violence. The Silence of the Spirits

A nameless young man lives in the housing projects outside of Paris. When he was a child, his parents moved with him from the Congo to France, hoping in vain to escape poverty and violence. His best friend, Drissa, is in a psychiatric hospital and now Mireille, his girlfriend, the woman with whom he has shared his childhood and hopes, has left him to reconnect with her Jewish roots in Israel. During a night out to drown the pain of his heartache, there is a fight with a policeman, the policeman dies, and the young man is arrested and taken to jail. Between police beatings and abrupt interrogations, his memory becomes his sole ally to escape from the exiguous space in which he is confined. Half-conscious and delirious, he reflects on his journey from the land of his ancestors to his life in the projects with Drissa and Mireille. The Heart of the Leopard Children

"D’où tu viens ?" Comment supporter cette sempiternelle question qui vous réduit à une origine ? Mais qu’est-ce que ça dit de soi, l’endroit où on est né ? Français à part entière, et pourtant... Marre du regard des autres et des préjugés, à cause d’une couleur de peau. Réclamer le droit à exister simplement comme un(e) ado, ici et maintenant, sans avoir tout le temps à se justifier ou provoquer, c’est trop demander ? Tant de questions, de colère à juguler, de confiance à puiser en soi, pour être capable de passer de l’aigreur à la douceur. Un texte qui trouve dans la parole la force de s’opposer à la discrimination.

Aigre-doux

La jeune Rosa Maria rêve de soleil, d’amour, de calme... et de fuir la cité des 6000 où elle vit avec sa famille en région parisienne. En attendant ce grand jour, elle soupire en cachette pour le beau Jason qui ne la voit pas. Un incident avec la police provoque une émeute dans le quartier, qui précipite les destins des personnages... Un roman d’apprentissage qui oppose à la violence urbaine la force de l’innocence.
