Das Buch versucht, unterschiedliche Methoden der Fertigungslenkung auf eine gemeinsame Basis zu stellen und damit eine einheitliche Sicht auf den Fertigungsprozeß zu geben. Dabei werden die Methoden, die heute in PPS, Fertigungssteuerung und Ablaufplanung verwendet werden, auf ihre Gemeinsamkeiten hin untersucht, einheitliche Strukturen aufgezeigt und die Grundlage für ein Theoriegebäude gebildet. Auf dieser Basis werden die heute verwendeten Methoden systematisch dargestellt. Für den Leser von besonderem Nutzen sind Fallstudien und das Aufzeigen von Feldern und Ansätzen, die von heute eingesetzten Systemen nicht abgedeckt werden.

Regardless of the economic size of the company, the processes of production and logistics play a decisive role in stabilizing procedures and avoiding waste. Both are important cost drivers in manufacturing companies and therefore they o?er large potential savings. Pervasive networking in the last years has contributed to a hitherto unknown transparency of global markets. This harmonization opened up new possibilities of entering foreign markets for procurement and sales to the companies. The emerging global procurement strategy was understood as a chance to rethink the relocation of existing production facilities to pro?t from existing di?erences in price and performance as a resource-saving factor. Many companies tended towards a reduction of their vertical integration by outsourcing sections of their value chain. These contracted services of production result in higher transport volumes, increased complexity of supply processes and new requirements on - gistic networks. This trend of outsourcing has not stopped, but is slowing down noticeably. Additionally,thereisanincreasingproportionofcompaniesrestoring business units that were outsourced before. Reasons for turning back decisions are often to be found in missed goals. It is not unusual that important cost f- tors were disregarded in the original basis of decision-making. In the meantime many companies have realized that it is easier to achieve stability of processes and therewith a control of costs by increasing their own contribution to p- duction. Especially in times of under-utilized capacities like in the current crisis, insourcingcanbeastrategicoption.

In dem mehrbändigen Werk zur „Produktionstheorie“ sollen erstmalig die heute aus der Praxis geborenen Produktionsmodelle und -verfahren mathematisch begründet hergeleitet und so auch der Produktionswirtschaft eine wissenschaftliche Grundlage gegeben werden. Dem „wir haben unser Unternehmen halt so organisiert und das hat sich bewährt“ soll eine konstruktivistische Sicht beiseite gestellt und so die vielen deskriptiv angelegten „Fabrikbetriebslehren“ abgelöst werden. Band 3 behandelt Produktionsabläufe in der Zeit. Ordinale und kardinale Zeitmengen führen zur systemtheoretisch verankerten Definition eines Prozesses am Produktionspunkt und den möglichen Prozess- und Zustandsverständnissen. Ein Hauptpunkt ist hier die Herleitung des in der Serienfertigung verbreiteten Denkens in Fortschrittszahlen. Ausgehend von der Basisform einer zeitbasierten Produktion werden effiziente dynamische Ereignisse und Prozesse aufbereitet. Damit sind die Grundlagen für die Zustandsdarstellung eines allgemeinen Zeitsystems und die Anwendung von Sequentialmaschinen geschaffen. Zeitinvariante Zeitsysteme und stochastische Produktionen sind Grundlage einer robusten Produktion. Eine ideale Symbiose finden Produktionspunkt und Zeitsystem in der Anwendung endlicher Automaten: Eine endliche Anzahl von Zuständen führt zusammen mit einer begrenzten Menge von Eingaben zu einer zustandsgetriebenen Produktion – eine der wesentlichen Voraussetzungen zur Realisierung von Industrie 4.0.

This book constitutes the proceedings of the 8th International Heinz Nixdorf Symposium, IHNS 2010, held in Paderborn, Germany, April 21-22, 2010, under the title "Changing Paradigms: Advanced Manufacturing and Sustainable Logistics". The 27 full and two short papers presented in this book were carefully reviewed and selected from a total of 63 submissions. They are grouped in five parts on Supply Chain Management, Production Logistics and Industrial Engineering, Operations Research Techniques, Humanitarian Logistics, and Simulation. The presentation is completed by nine invited keynote papers from renowned international experts in these fields.
