This book contains the refereed proceedings of the 19th International Conference on Business Information Systems, BIS 2016, held in Leipzig, Germany, in July 2016. The BIS conference series follows trends in academia and business research; thus the theme of the BIS 2016 conference was Smart Business Ecosystems". This recognizes that no business is an island and competition is increasingly taking place between business networks and no longer between individual companies. A variety of aspects is relevant for designing and understanding smart business ecosystems. They reach from new business models, value chains and processes to all aspects of analytical, social and enterprise applications and platforms as well as cyber-physical infrastructures. The 33 full and 1 short papers were carefully reviewed and selected from 87 submissions. Business information systems is a rapidly developing domain. There are many topicsthatdeserveattentionbuthavenotyetfoundaplaceincanonicalresearch. Workshops give researchers the possibility to share preliminary ideas, ?rst - perimental results, or to discuss research hypotheses. Discussions held during presentations strengthen the paper and prepare it for publication. From our - perience, workshops are a perfect instrument with which to create a community aroundvery speci?c researchtopics, thus o?ering the opportunity to promote it. Topics that do not ?nd critical feedback at the main International Conference on Business Information Systems (BIS) may experience fruitful discussion when confronted with a well-focused audience. Over the last few decades, business informationsystems have been one of the most important factors of the transition toward a knowledge-based economy. At the same time they have been subject to continuous rapid development and innovation driven both by industry and by academia. For the last 12 years these innovations were carefully observed but also shaped by researchers attending BIS yearly.

Welcome to BIS'99! Business Information Systems 99 is an international conference being held for the third time. BIS'99 aims to discuss the development, implementation, application and improvement of computer systems for business processes. It is addressed to the scientific community, people involved in the development of business computer applications, and to consultants helping to properly implement computer technology and applications in industry. Over 50 selected papers will be presented at BIS'99 during the scientific and practical sessions. The papers deal with a variety of topics related to computer systems in management, from the point of view of their application (e.g., electronic commerce), their business or industrial users (e.g., business process re-engineering), and technology (e.g., data warehousing). The submitted papers underwent a rigorous reviewing process, and the resulting program should provide an outstanding representation of international research in this area. We believe that BIS'99 will provoke some interesting international discussion amongst participants, particularly as this meeting includes a number of invited lectures by international experts in the area. The BIS'99 international Program Committee was composed of 53 scientists from diverse locations -from the USA to Australia, from countries with a stable economy through to those undergoing economic transformation. This aspect further helps to enrich the conference program.

BIS workshops give researchers the opportunity to share their preliminary ideas and first experimental results and to discuss research hypotheses with a highly focused audience. The 25 papers in this volume were carefully reviewed and selected from 47 submissions and were revised and extended after the event.
