Il existe sans doute quelqu'un de mieux, c'est juste que nous ne l'avons pas encore rencontré. La personne avec laquelle nous partagerons réellement l'envie d'être ensemble, du fond du coeur, existe forcément. Je crois que nous devons continuer à chercher, sans nous décourager. Au fil de ses apprentissages, de ses déceptions et de ses joies, Linde - femme imparfaite, on voudrait dire normale - découvre le fossé qui nous sépare irrémédiablement d'autrui et se heurte aux illusions d'un bonheur idéal. Elle a 16 ans, puis 28, 34, 47, 3 et enfin 63 ans ; autant de moments qui invitent le lecteur à repenser l'ordinaire, et le guident sur le chemin d'une vie plus légère, à travers les formes et les gestes du bonheur : faire griller du lard, respirer l'odeur du thé fumé ou porter un gilet à grosses mailles. Car le bonheur peut s'apprendre et "pour quelqu'un qui avait raté sa vie, il lui semblait qu'elle ne s'en sortait pas trop mal."
