in comparison to other novels by 墨香铜臭, i do think that this one lacked the depth i was looking for. the plots of both 魔道祖师 and 天官赐福 were beautifully crafted with so many details and subtlety in the relationships whereas this one reminded me of typical web novels that sprinkle sweet moments inside. but still, i love my shizun and binghe (我这就把民政局搬过来).

The author wrote this when they were 17. That immediately gives the book so much credit! 
This was a weird one. The book is satire and it makes fun of two major genres and lots of tropes from the cnovel scene. 
As a rookie reader of the genre, I haven't seen the tropes enough to fully appreciate the book's satirical jab at them but it was very funny, the main character was very likable, the emotional punches leave you breathless and as usual, there are a lot of morally ambiguous/nuanced characters, the romance was...kind of there but also not really? It's weird because I think that was one of the jokes too. It's hard to explain. I wouldn't read this book for its romance. It's there but...

Anyway, I like the book. 
Heed warnings when you go into reading this.
Heed warnings when you approach the eastern sphere as a general and do not be jerks about the cultural differences.
