hmm, i don't really get this one, this could be murakami's book i enjoy the least. giving 3 stars cause i can't give 2.5

Hear the Wind Sing

Having enjoyed 'the essentials', I thought it would be interesting to read the author's first two novels. It’s interesting to see the master starting at his craft. And of course we know what we're getting: Murakami describing things, or towns. But I’m a sucker for it.

It was a short read, finished it in about 2 hours. Great read nonetheless. Quite a simple story, honestly would’ve loved if this was my first Murakami. Written in such a nice easy to latch on to kind of a flow, really loved it. Made me want to live near the beach and enjoy mundane summers for once. Pointless but still a page turner to the core. Wish he wrote more like this. Really loved it, wished it was longer and less about an author that doesn’t exist haha, definitely the most boring parts in the book. Some quotes really stuck with me. The one about being cool and the one about art and writing and how art comes from slavery. I loved the short chapters and felt so..modern to read even if it was written in 1973. Loved all the songs mentioned, made me want to listen to them. Pretty good.

Easy novella to read in one sitting, hard to believe that this is the first thing that Murakami wrote with no background in writing before.

Not his best. When I saw it in Audible, I figured it was new, but turns out it was early Murakami. It has the makings of what's to come, although no cats? And sex only gets a mention with no actual shagging or descriptions. But there is a well.

-the tragic backstories of the characters that were merely hinted at 
-the beautiful writing

-the open ending and the pointlessness you feel towards the end
-being a bit forgettable

 I'm counting this for the Around the World in 80 Books challenge as a book set in Japan.
