Ma non ho capito bene se poi l’analisi arrivi a semplificare il mondo o solo a scomporlo in parti piccolissime. Comunque, rispetto a un tempo sento di stare molto meglio, e anche le persone che ho attorno me lo dicono. 

In quel buio provai molte volte ad allungare la mano. Le mie dita però non incontravano niente. Quella piccola luce era sempre un po' piú avanti delle mie dita.

Il fatto che Naoko avesse vent'anni mi diede una strana sensazione. A me sarebbe sembrato normale oscillare all'infinito tra i diciotto ei diciannove anni. Passare dai diciotto ai diciannove e dai diciannove di nuovo ai diciotto... quello sí l'avrei capito

Come mai a te placciono sempre persone cosí? -disse Naoko. - Abbiamo tutti qualcosa di squilibrato, qualcosa che non funziona, tutte persone che non sanno nuotare come si deve è che vanno sempre più a fondo. Siamo tutti così in un modo o nell’altro: io, Kizuki, Reiko. Come mai non ti piacciono persone più normali? 

-Io non penso che sia cosi, - dissi dopo aver riflettuto un momento. - Per me non avete proprio niente di squilibrato, né tu né Kizuki né Reiko. Le persone che sembrano squilibrate me sono tutte quelle che vanno in giro per il mondo senza nesssun problema. - Ma noi lo siamo, squilibrati. Io lo so, - disse Naoko.

They have just enough talent so they've been able to play things well without any effort and they've had people telling them how great they are from an early age, so hard work looks stupid to them. They'll take some piece another kid has to work on for three weeks and polish it off in half the time, so the teacher assumes they've put enough into it and lets themn go on to the next thing. And they do that in half the time and go on to the next piece. They never find out what it means to be hammered by the teacher; they lose out on a crucial element required for character building. It's a tragedy. I myself had tendencies like that, but fortunately I had a very tough teacher, so I kept them in check. 

"Because sometimes I have a need for human warmth," I answered honestly. "Sometimes, if I can't feel something like the warmth of a woman's skin, I get so lonely I can't stand it." "Here, let me summarize what I think it's all about," interjected Nagasawa. "Watanabe's got this girl he likes, but for certain complicated reasons, they can't do it. So he tells himself 'Sex is just sex', and he takes care of his need with somebody else. What's wrong with that? It makes perfect sense. He can't just stay locked in his room tossing off all the time, can he?" "But if you really love her, Toru, shouldn't it be possible for you to control yourself?"

Some dialogues i will forever remember:

- "That's why I read them. If you only read the books that everyone else is reading, you can only think what everyone else is thinking."

- "So is it a mistake for me to feel that I want to be understood by someone - by you, for example?"

- "I guess i have been waiting so long im looking for perfection. That make it though"

- "Do you think you werent loved enough?"

Je suis tombée dessus par hasard et j'ai découvert le style puissant et intime de l'écriture de Murakami. On plonge dans l'atmosphère japonaise et on voyage à travers un deuil, un premier amour et l'ambiguïté de devenir un jeune adulte. Le roman touche profondément, avec sensibilité et justesse. J'ai adoré, sauf la vision réductrice et machiste des personnages féminins et le côté dérangeant avec lequel est traité la sexualité.

I appreciated the reflection on the practice of therapy  and the psychological depth that all the characters have.

It’s the perfect book to read in your 20s and it gets that sense of not knowing what to expect from life perfectly, making the book incredibly meaningful and contemporary, even if it was written a few years ago.

كان في حد قالي قبل كدا ان بعد ما أقرأ كذا عمل لموراكامي هفقد استمتاعي بيه وتقريبا دا حصل، رواية مملة وسخيفة باستثناء حاجات قليلة.

Während Murakamis Wortwahl (oder auch der seiner Übersetzerin) wie so oft wunderschöne Bilder zeichnet und die Charaktere recht interessant sind, ist es immer wieder der Male Gaze, der zwar auch die sexuelle Begierde von Frauen normalisiert, zugleich jedoch auch die Befriedigung des Mannes in den Vordergrund stellt. Naoko, die zwar Titelgebend ist und um die sich das Gefühlsleben des Protagonisten dreht, erscheint mir oft eher wie eine leere Hülle, die letztlich mehr der Befriedigung und Vergangenheitsbewältigung des Toru Watanabe dient, als dass sie selbst wirklich Spuren in Leser*innen hinterlässt. Man erfährt mehr über zwei andere interessante Frauen-Charaktere, Reiko und Midori, deren Eigenarten manchmal allerdings so überzogen sind, dass man sie leicht als seltsam wahrnehmen kann. Doch sind sie mitunter die offensten und aufrichtigsten Figuren im ganzen Buch, selbst im Vergleich zum Ich-Erzähler-Protagonisten, dessen Charakter vergleichsweise fad und undurchsichtig wirkt.
