February 9, 2019: If the Cat Faces West is a curious little thing. Lovers of a slice-of-life genre with a twist of magical realism would really enjoy it. The author created a world just like ours, but with a mysterious phenomenon called "flow", which creates alternate universe projections in response to human emotional turmoil. In the opening chapter, for example, a student confused about his future creates a forked path out of an ordinary alleyway. In another chapter, the pressures of an unhealthy relationship eliminated all sharp corners and edges in a nearby marketplace. It is up to the severely underfunded flow professionals under the leadership of a cat to investigate the cause of the phenomenon and to hopefully correct the disturbance. 

I got a chance to read this book as it was serialized, and I had a hard time waiting for another release to see where the story would go.

I really really reeeeally loved this manga but it was probably canceled by the magazine as it only has three volumes. It's a shame.. this first one was better than a lot of stuff that is ongoing today. this is better than mushishi, no joke. it's kind of iyashikei fantasy/slice of life magic realism, perfect to go on for years and years until it becomes a well-known comfort reading.

it's really a shame that such captivating work it's so short. I think the best thing to do is take a break between volumes so it doesn't end too quickly. overall, I'm happy I found this and sad for the same reason. 

* sigh *... 5 shiny twinkle silverly stars and a toast to all the unfinished masterpieces. I'm going to cry in my room now.
