Lovely and brilliant. Having not had this in my childhood library I wonder how much the experience would change had this reading been a nostalgic revisitation as opposed to a fresh look. Despite their quasi-fantasy setting, I'm surprised how these stories can be startlingly realistic - there are scenes in which characters learn unexpected lessons about life, scenes in which the reader realises no one really knows anything but they're too ashamed/proud to admit it, characters who seem smart but who really aren't, playful puns, harmless laughable moments, complex emotions of timidity, embarrassment, resentment... Life's most distinct, vibrant colours summed up in simple, readable words.

The simple words do not make the end of the book less sad; perhaps it made it more heart-breaking and I was surprised by how deeply I was affected by it. "Pooh, promise you won't forget about me, ever." The end marks a poignant departure, a last, hesitant, good-bye to an idyllic, imaginative childhood.

Although I rated them both the same, I do believe that Winne The Pooh was better than The House At Pooh Corner. I just overall preferred the chapters. They were more compelling to me.

Despite this fact, Tigger was not in the first book and he's definitely my favourite character. He's just so energetic and lively and ambitious. He's just a ball of sunshine.

Also because this is the last novel of Winnie The Pooh, the ending was so bittersweet. It was just so perfect and made my heart sing.

To conclude, this was a delightful sequel. However not as good as the first one in my opinion.

These stories are so much more than mere stuffed animal make-belief, and my love for them increases with every read.

Compared to the first book we get actual character development of those we know already, new characters that are introduced and important themes like prejudice, personalities, tolerance or growing up that are woven so carefully into those stories; I can't help but be in awe of Milne.

It's a lot more difficult than we might think to convey complex issues into a simple language that young children as well as adults can understand. The last story is especially moving, with that realisation that even happy times change, life just can't stay the same, and while that's tough and sad, we can hold on to the memories and our inner child.

Also, this book in particular has one of the most beautiful dedications I have ever seen:

You gave me Christopher Robin, and then
You breathed new life in Pooh.
Whatever of each has left my pen
Goes homing back to you.
