A new character is reeking havoc on Derek's life. Emilia has set her sights on Derek and he feels a connection to her. He has no idea why he feels connected to her. He is ashamed of the dreams and thoughts he has of her. Sofia can tell that something is wrong. Derek is distant and she knows something is wrong. Derek knows he love Sofia but he can't deny that there is some connection to Emilia. He knows it is a dangerous connection and if he wants to protect the relationship he has with Sofia, Emilia has to go. But things are never that easy. War is coming and the only hope for The Shade is for Derek to give in to Emilia's demands. The problem then will be whether or not Derek and Sofia can survive Emilia and her demands. 

Learning more about Emilia and her connection to Derek and The Shade was unnerving. It seems you can't trust anyone and their loyalties. The love triangles are never ending in this series. Everyone love someone and that someone either loves someone else, is blind to it, is repulsed by it or just not into it. There is just to much of this and that. Too much POV changing. Too many villains. Too many love triangles. Things get choppy here and there and the focus gets muddled. Mostly I wish there was more story development instead of so many POVs. 

That being said, I did like quite a bit of this book. It's by far not perfect but I wouldn't mind reading it again. I like reading thing twice whether it be a stand alone book or a series such as this one. I probably won't do that with this series because it's been up and down for me. I didn't love this addition to the series but I didn't hate it either. I'm hoping to see more improvement in the next book. I'm not entirely sure that I like the direction the series is moving toward now. I still enjoy Sofia and Derek's characters and they, and a few other characters, are the reason I've stuck with this series. 

I was able to guess some to the plot twists in this book and figure out much of what was going to happen. I still enjoyed reading through everything as it happened. I'm a bit upset with some of the choices that were made in this book and series. I found myself thinking "why" on numerous occasions.
