This is the perfect enemies/rivals to lovers storyline!!! I actually can't choose which couple's book I enjoyed reading so far in the series more. I thought I would miss seeing Cassandra and Joshua not being together but once I got invested in Guy and Arabella's story there was no room for anyone else (though I do miss them). Guy and Arabella are simply AMAZING and made even more so by the fact they have such a complex dynamic and years of history. I lived for how they challenged each other and had found this comfortable space over the years doing so. It didn't help them being promised to each other practically from birth because this grew into resentment that neither could shake. Given their stubborn personalities and desire for free will it's no wonder why they hated the other's guts. That being said no matter what there was this silent communication and mutual enjoyment in besting the other and even a sense of familiarity they both felt.

It's all that history they've shared that kept me invested, everything was so layered, and there was no such thing as a simple moment between them. I really got to hand it to Mia Vincy she knows how to hook my attention and keep it the whole way through. The fact that when Guy leaves the court and denounces his desire to marry Arabella she finds herself in a desperate situation of now off to a man she has uneasy feelings about. Despite all that when he returns he's the first person she feels comfortable enough to turn to help her out. There were just so much unspoken moments between them both had their guards up and especially Arabella tried to hide behind playing games and not letting him know but trusting him in her own way.

OMG I loved Arabella's character so much in this book she was fiercely independent, strong, intelligent, funny, but also incredibly vulnerable! The epitome of a misunderstood character. I felt for her and how she got into many situations that made her look bad all because she wanted to have some control of her own life. She let people believe what they want about her but all she wanted was someone to see through the facade. I did love the games she played though they were fun to read and I was cheering her on in her various attempts to take control of her life. She and Guy had so much incredible tension throughout the book and there were just too many good moments to count! I wanted her so badly to just give in and be upfront with him as much as I enjoyed their back and forth she needed someone who really knew what she was going through. This was a very slowburn relationship but more than anything it was an emotional slowburn, and it worked so well with the direction of their story. Neither willing to admit defeat or put their heart on the line but still they couldn't fight their intense attraction and feelings that had formed. Guy was determined to see her as this cunning manipulative woman, but at the same time noticed how different she was around her fiance. I loved how pissed off he was seeing her being this subdued version of herself when he knew that was not who she is. If I had one complaint it was I just wanted more time of them actually being together there were so many heavy emotions, longing, and angst I would've killed for just 50 extra pages of them truly together.
