A Five-Minute Life
Reviews

A Five-Minute Life was my first book by this author and in all honesty, I should've started reading her books sooner. Emma Scott has a way with words that pull you right in from the start. I couldn't put this book down, because the story kept making me want more and it definitely hit all the feels. I always have to compliment the author when she can make me feel so many things when reading a book! This book isn't one I can really do a long review on, because I believe A Five-Minute Life is a book you need to experience yourself to feel the full impact of all the emotions, so I will keep this one shorter. Thea is a young vibrant artist who will have the world at her fingers once she finishes school. Unfortunately a tragic accident changes everything and Thea has lost just about all of her memory and ability to make new memories. Every few minutes her brain resets and she starts over again. The first thing I thought was how scary that had to be! Constantly "waking up" and not understanding anything at all or realizing what's going on. That is awful and no one should have to go through something like that. At Blue Ridge Sanatorium she has a structured life, but it seems the doctors have gave up. It's awful that there was no one really fighting for her. Then we meet Jim (who has earned a permanent place on the bookboyfriend list). He had a difficult life, hopping from fosterhome to fosterhome and add being bullied and things got hard. Jim became strong and worked for a different employer until they shut down. Jim is such a caring person and doesn't care if there are boundaries that could stop him. There is an instant connection between Thea and Jim and I love how he stuck by her even if they met again a few times a day. Their journey was amazing and he ended up really making a difference. These characters are ones you want to live happily ever after and then some. Emma Scott made me care so much for these characters and I am actually sad this story is over. Even if their journey together was incredible. I loved how she showed us to fight for love and what you believe in. Not to just settle with anything less. Their romance isn't perfect and this story has its ups and downs, but please pick this one up!! I do want to warn everyone that there is a matter in this book that can be very hard for some readers to deal with. Be warned before starting this story (it doesn't take over the whole book, but it is there).

So much more than a romance novel. Phenomenal exploration of a relationship in the most unlikely of circumstances. Highly recommend.

Thea is a literal ray of sunshine, and I understand why Jimmy couldnโt help but fall for her. Jimmy is a really interesting main character, and I love how insecure and uncertain he was about himself because of his past and his stutter. It made him so much more interesting to read about then a typical clichรฉ bad boy. Thea and Jimmyโs relationship/bond is amazing and I loved seeing them grow together. We start off with Thea and her 5 minute memory, and Jimmy as an orderly. It was so heartbreaking but also at the same time heartwarming to see how they handled that situation. Everything after that was a rollercoaster of emotions. One moment I was happy, the next I was stressed, then I was sad, then happy againโฆ It just went on and on. I just really loved the story and itโs characters and everything that happened in it. This book was romantic, funny, sexy, emotional, heartwarming and overall just a really good book. I do have to give a few trigger warnings though because a lot of serious topics are being mentioned. TW: brain injury, sexual assault, speech disorder, death
