Firstly, I thought the idea of the story was very interesting and I usually love these kinds of stories, however...
I did not enjoy reading this. I thought there were way too many similarities between it and especially Sarah J Maas’s books, but also lots of other YA fantasy novels in general. 
I didn’t think the writing went deep enough and I found myself skimming a lot of the lines. The plot seemed to move extremely slowly yet the individual chapters and scenes seemed to race forward and I didn’t get a feel for it promising anything at the end. There was nothing driving it forward. 
I didn’t feel connect with the characters and I feel that links to the writing not going deep enough. Emotions seemed to change extremely fast which left me very confused. 
Sentences were very short and I never got a sense for the majority of the characters’ personalities, their motives or their true feelings.
The plot also seemed to feel really jumpy. I felt there was no preparation for any of the scenes. Things in the plot seemed to come out of nowhere, yet you felt something should have been building to it. Not just for the bigger and more intense scenes.

I have to admit that this was pretty much a cover buy. It's gorgeous! And, it's about the fae which I love.
I've heard this compared to Sarah J. Maas, but I have not read her books so I don't know if that is true or not.

This story follows Serena. She has always been different. Most people avoid her. Her mother is dead, her father got remarried and her step-mother is horrible. Her life can't get much worse. Can it?

Apparently it can. She is taken by the fae. She is to be trained as a warrior for Morgan. What can a weak human do in a fae war you ask? Read this to find out.

I really enjoyed this book. I loved the characters, the world, the magic. I really liked the writing style as well. I am very excited for the next one.

I guess I'm just a sucker for Fae love-stories...

L'écriture n'est pas parfaite, la dynamique et le rythme sont discutables, les relations précipités et les personnages stéréotypés. 
Mais malgré tout ça, j'ai complétement été happée par cette histoire jusqu'à ne plus lâcher ce livre et l'engloutir en quelques journées. Je ne saurais pas l'expliquer.
J'ai senti de merveilleuses similarités avec Throne of Glass et A Court of Mist and Fury mais soyons clair, bien en dessous du niveau de la Queen Mass. Toutefois ce petit rappel de deux sagas qui me sont très chères m'a rendu nostalgique. 

J'ai très hâte de connaître la suite même si apparemment il n'y a pas encore de date de publication pour le second volet.

First read of 2019!

This was so good! I’ve seen this compared to A Court of Thorns and Roses, but honestly - despite some similarities in plot, it was definitely something different altogether too. At almost 600 pages, I was very wary of the length, especially for a book from an indie author. However, it kept me hooked the whole way through. I was loving this so much, I even purchased the audiobook so I could listen to it while I couldn’t sit and read.

A Kingdom of Exiles follows Serena, a young human woman who is thrust into the world of the fae after she is wrongly accused of unspeakable crimes. Saved, then simultaneously taken against her will, Serena finds her only choice is to embrace her new life and train to be a soldier in the army of a ruthless fae Queen.

Guided by an unknowable force within a family heirloom, Serena forges unbreakable bonds and friendships, finds comfort and solace in the most surprising of beings, experiences unsurmountable grief and betrayal and follows a path to discover familial secrets she never could have anticipated.

This book has a little of everything: action and adventure, mystery, healthy friendships (female friendships even!), steamy romance, humor, a well crafted world and history and an intriguing villain.

If you are a fan of stories with fae such as A Court of Thorns and Roses and The Falconer or just enjoy fantasy in general, this is a book you do not want to miss. It definitely deserves more readers and more hype than it’s garnered! I am DYING to read the next one!
