Set in the Highlands of Scotland, this was a solid procedural with a quite vivid setting. A young boy is kidnapped and some of the details of the case are eerily similar to a series of child murders that happened in the past. But the killer was caught and has been locked up in a state mental hospital ever since. DCI Logan has been searching for the remains of the last missing boy for years, with no success. Now he believes that the new kidnapping is the work of a copycat, and is the same modus operandi is used, he will have only a few days to save the boy. 

Based in Glasgow, Logan is sent to the rural area of Fort William. Although rugged and hardened, DCI Logan is likable enough and I really wanted him to find the killer. He's obsessed and a little blinded by his theories, but he's a good guy to the core and I enjoyed his way of thinking.

The rest of the characters were quite interesting too, I enjoyed their team work and was a little bit sad that DCI Logan has to go back to Glasgow at the end of the book. 

Animal cruelty is something that bothers me A LOT but the way it was described here didn't want me to put down the book immediately, nor did it have me remove any stars, so in my opinion it was not too horrible, even though I would have preferred to 

This was a debut and maybe because of that I guessed who the killer was pretty early on, but I'm quite keen on reading the next installment in the series. The audio version made the book even better because the Scottish accent of the narrator really sucked me into the setting, making it even more vivid.

interesting plot + plot twist , just felt a little rushed in places & the mc was v annoying. the last 50ish pages were the vvv good & by far the best of the whole book !!!
