“Yes. The game you were just playing.”

Kyohei, a fifth-grader, getting back on Yukawa who demanded him to show his gaming skills. Yukawa did very badly on the game soon after, of which Kyohei laughed out loud while rolling on the tatami mats.

“You try playing then, Professor,” Kyohei said, handing him the controller.

A bewildered look came over Yukawa’s face. “I’ll pass.”

“I prefer my trials and errors in the real world.”

“Oh, come on, give it a shot. Or maybe you’re chicken.” Kyohei grinned.

“Then play. None of these adult hang-ups of yours.” Kyohei nudged Yukawa in the shoulder with the controller.

What a wonder. To what lengths do people go. 

I thoroughly enjoyed this one. I originally had my doubts because people are saying that this wasn’t as good as The Devotion of Suspect X, but to my own surprise, I really liked it. It’s gonna be another thing that’ll hang in my mind for a few weeks now.

Maybe because I read it right after Salvation of a Saint, which I wouldn’t say I enjoyed it as much as the first one. Or maybe because I loved the summer in Hari Cove setting, a reminiscent of the tropical country I live in. Or maybe… It’s because of the relationship between Yukawa and fifth-grader Kyohei; I get to witness another side of Yukawa I didn’t expect (but the way Yukawa acted around Kyohei was definitely spot on, proving that his characterizations are very well-put). Honestly, it’s not an exaggeration to say thay I only started falling in love with Yukawa in this book.

The plot took quite a twist, one that was unexpected. I enjoyed how the story developed too. Overall, it was an entertaining read. Among the Detective Galileo series, I’d gladly rate this book second only to The Devotion of Suspect X.

Loved the setting and the characters but slooooooow paced right to the end.

This was my least favorite of the series so far. It was a little difficult to follow but I did like how it ended and how things ended up. Look forward to the next entry.
