Really great fantasy. Incredible original characters with great character developements. Also, love the representation of consent. The second book was even better than the first one.

Had it not been for the good conclusion and karina's understandable, albeit abrupt, character development, i would've give this less because Oh My God did malik went through a character regression so painful and unbearable to read through

a satisfying follow up to a song of wraiths and ruin!!

there is some top notch character development and exploration, and Brown does a phenomenal job portraying really difficult topics, especially grooming

a lot more world building than would be expected in a second book, but it was a little unavoidable given the discoveries that occurred towards the end of asowar

the plot was a little harder to follow and didn’t feel planned out as well as in asowar, but still engaging! and lots of great new side characters

is the sequel to the book "A Song of Wraiths & Ruin" written by Roseanne A. Brown.

I was quite excited about the publication of this book and today after a long time I was able to read it and have come to tell my experience.

Let's start with the cover. It is simply beautiful. The colors, the typography, everything is divine. 

This is not a gentle book, there are several topics that may be heavy for some and I appreciate that they have included a page with possible trigger warnings. Throughout the book, there was a deeper dive into the characters' traumas, abuses and mental illnesses. I thought the way it was written, at least in the part about anxiety and how it affects day to day life, was appropriate and respectful. 

New characters were introduced and made the book more enjoyable. No names will be mentioned, to avoid spoilers, but I loved the way they were introduced into the plot and their sarcastic and funny contribution to the story. 

As for the relationship between our main characters, honestly the tension could be felt through the words. Likewise there was a certain character, whose name I won't mention because he doesn't deserve the honor, had me completely annoyed and furious. How could anyone be so hateful?

The ending left a lot to be desired for me. What was that ending Roseanne? My heart was left half beating and I didn't know whether to cry or laugh for believing there would be another one. 

Anyway, I really enjoyed this book, and although I would have liked another ending, I loved having the opportunity to read it. 4.75⭐️

A Song of Wraiths and Ruin was one of my favorite reads of last year, so I was highly anticipating the follow-up, and it didn't disappoint! There were a few things I had forgotten from the first book, so it took me a couple of chapters to reorient myself, but once I did, I was invested. The relationship between Malik and Karina was still strong, though I could do without the romantic element since it occasionally feels forced. But I enjoyed the dynamic between Malik and Idir much more. They had this push-and-pull thing going on, and I loved how they started as enemies but eventually found this balance and regard. We also got introduced to a few new characters in here that brought some much-needed humor and lightness. Much like the first book, Brown doesn't shy away from topics such as abuse and self-harm, and I think she does a beautiful job at respectfully handling mental health. As for the plot, I enjoyed it, but it did feel all over the place. It was almost as if everything and nothing were happening all at once. It was still kept me turning the pages, but the real action doesn't start until the third act. Aside from that hiccup, I thought this was a bittersweet ending to the series and would recommend it to anyone looking for a new fantasy to pick up.
