footnotes in fiction as part of the narrative are really hit or miss for me, this one was a miss most of the time. I wanted to like this book but struggled to stay engaged in it. Most of the book was the main character processing death and undeath, which felt slow and a little boring but I got more invested again towards the end. Maybe a quicker reread would help?
