There's so much detail (which I love) but I was more interested in the happenings of Kolkata than whatever Wyndham was doing. His dispensing of justice was nowhere to be found. I felt like he became part of the problem more than the solution.

The Author is well informed about Independence India and from that perspective it very informative. However, if he set out to write a mystery novel, a lot of the interest in the mystery was lost in the endless descriptions scattered all over this book. It's well-written but do you real need to describe every arm-chair and room you come across? Thankfully it wasn't too long.
