Thank you to Entangled Publishing for the best historical romance I’ve read in a long while. 😍 BRB while I figure out what other books Stacy Reid has written because I most definitely need to put them on my radar!! The tension? Top tier. The storyline? Top tier. I love the way a well-done historical romance can transport you to another time the same way a fantasy takes you to a different place.

This book had me hooked from the very first page when we see a young Devlin carrying Ophelia to saftey after she ended up in a river.. They spent a good amount of time together becoming friends and promising that when they will grow up they are going to marry each other... Fast forward 16 years and we see Ophelia who has become a beautiful woman on a mission.. looking for information that takes her to the seedier parts of the city in to taverns and opera houses.. Devlin has become rich and someone to be feared. He has thought of Ophelia often, and when he spies her wandering around he knows that he will protect her.. Even if she has no idea who he is and what he once ment to her.. OMG! I loved their romance so much.. I thought they had amazing chemistry, and even though Devlin didn't want to fall in love with Ophelia you could feel how much he did in every action that he took.. Ophelia took a little more time falling in love or at least recognizing it, but everytime they were together you could see how much she trusted him and how safe and loved he made her feel.. I also loved the banter, and just how they could be themselves completely with each other.. I was left with that satisfied feeling when it was over, and I can't wait to read the next book in the series and see who gets their HEA next!

“You... Everything is different with you. Even my damn senses seem to be lost when I am with you." She dropped her forehead against his. “Is that not a good thing?" "Only if it is mutually assured madness."

“Why did you learn?" He wasn't the typical gentleman about town who was invested in knowing the dance styles for when they ventured into wooing a lady on the marriage mart. “For this moment." The words were simple and without any deep inflection, but his eyes gleamed with hidden knowledge. "And what moment is that?" “To dance with you, Fifi."
