In elementary school, Shoya bullies the deaf Shoko mercilessly. When she transfers to another school to escape his torment, Shoya finds himself bullied by the students he once considered his friends. Years later, he learns sign language to apologize to Shoko for his behavior, and so begins a relationship that will change his and Shoko's lives forever.

I watched the movie this book inspired first. I watched it when I was 15 or 16, which was an all-time low for my mental health. To this day, being 20 years old and loving life, it is one of my absolute favorite movies of all time. But even on the first of seven issues in this series, I can tell it's going to far surpass the movie. This first novel opens so much more brutal and in-depth following both the hazing of Shoko, and eventually Shoya, and the main plot already benefits so much from the extra details. This series is going to wreck me, and I welcome the wreck with open arms.

Cute, simplistic. It’s an important theme, waking up to the vulnerability of others, but not a very good treatment.

This series is one of my favourites and there aren't enough words to put all my thoughts into a review. But if you haven't read this manga (or watched the anime) then go do that, and be filled with too many feelings at once

Reads from right to left in the traditional Japanese format.

it’s the end and i’m so sad about it. i want more! i wanted a relationship to form but i’m also a bit happy with how it went. it was almost a bittersweet ending, and this series was just so quick and entertaining all the way, honestly had me hooked. the story of a bully trying to right his wrongs and the journey of facing the people he knew with a troubled last between them and facing new friends and new journeys and accomplishing what he couldn’t have imagined. honestly i loved it.

also can we talk about how odd shoya’s sister is and her brazilian boyfriend?? she’s only in the series twice, i found it very odd, like i think if you removed them and their other daughter then it wouldn’t have been so confusing.

Years ago, Shoya Ishida led his peers in tormenting a hearing-impaired classmate, Shoko Nishimiya. When she transfers schools, Shoya finds he has gone from bully to bullied, and is left completely alone. Now Shoya struggles to redeem himself in Shoko's eyes and to face the classmates who turned on him. He learns sign language to apologise to Shoko for his behaviour, and so begins a relationship that will change his and Shoko's lives forever.

A Silent Voice 6

the message of bullying in this series and the journey of overcoming it whether you were recovering or giving is both interesting and shocking. i kept wondering if this is what it’s like for some people, and if they really had to work though so many conflicting emotions to overcome it.

A Silent Voice 5

okay wow, so that ending really had me shocked and i didn’t see it coming but also i kind of had a feeling, you know? i’m glad it went the way it did, though. this series is just soooo emotional and deep and dark when it comes to revealing emotions and feelings and secrets and hard hitting when it comes to bullying.

A Silent Voice 4

the thing i love about this series is that it discusses very important topics and deals with friendships and just overall building a relationship with someone. i love the sister relationship between yuzuru and shoko, they’re just so cute. the only problem i have is when it becomes a little confusing, like some characters are brought in and they’re just there for show or sometimes the dialogue is confusing, but overall it’s very enjoyable and i’m obsessed with the story!!

Cooper Sivara

Fantastic characters, and it gives them time to fail, learn, and grow. Very excited to continue reading this series!

I loved the movie and so far the manga is almost the same! I'm not really a fan of some of Shoto's behavior, and how quickly the fandom forgave him. That being said, the foreshadowing in the beginning was really funny, and I'm interested to see where the movie differs. I know this review is all over the place but it's a really amazing story.

Der zweite Band hat mir wirklich sehr gut gefallen, konnte mich aber leider nicht umhauen - daher nur drei Sterne. Ich werde die Reihe auf jeden Fall weiterlesen. Finde die Message der Reihe wirklich großartig!

A Silent Voice 01

ARE YOU AFRAID OF HER? Shoya's decided to do everything he can to make up for how terribly he treated Shoko, his former classmate who can't hear. But more than the challenge of learning to communicate, it means facing a past he thought he'd left behind forever. Now a reunion with old friends will transform Shoya, and his relationship with Shoko.
