Witches at The Wing! 🧙🎀 I am such a sucker for books that fictionalize the peak moments of girlboss culture, but this one felt predictable and maybe a little dated to me.

i really liked the beginning of this book. the way that spaces evolve around marginalized groups only to deny membership to non-exceptional members of that marginalized group (or because of race, wealth, etc) is not lost on me. but man, that plot twist lost me. everything after that just felt silly. i did feel compelled to finish the book anyway so i guess that's a good thing. but i don't think i'd recommend this book to anyone. if y'all have ever seen the Black Mirror episode "Mazey Day," it's pretty much the exact situation here. really meaningful metaphors until random supernatural insertion undermines those metaphors.

? one of the stupidest books i've ever read like was this a joke? sadly, i do not think it is. lmfao i wouldn't even have read / finished this if i hadn't listened to the audio on 2.5 speed and then hella skimmed the last 50 pages, bloop. it was supposed to give critique on white, "nasty woman"-esque feminism but then ended up just giving white, "nasty woman"-esque "feminism"? no like seriously the point of this is escaping me. NOT TO MENTION the little Walmart version of Bunny thrown in there? pysch - not even Walmart version; like the gas station you pass by on the interstate in the middle of Missouri version of Bunny. LOL SORRY this was bad though.

This one I got from a hold at the library (I get them online directly into the Kindle app on my phone, it’s glorious) and for the life of me I have no idea how it got there. The premise is was pretty intriguing, but it still didn’t seem like something I’d use a precious hold space on. 
	This book is pretty much about a secret society exclusively for women, and it implodes. Women have been known to be jealous and catty, and Hankin definitely highlighted that. It is frustrating to have groups of women consistently portrayed in that manner, but I suppose it’s for a reason. I, too, have experienced catty women in groups. It’s unpleasant. However, I don’t use burn buildings down when I’m mad…so…This isn’t a bad book, and the women eventually iron out their differences and move their relationships into better places, but continuing to read about catty women is getting old.

A Special Place for Women manages to be snarky, heartwarming, and hilarious. 
I had been warned there was a twist, but everything that happened in this book felt exactly as it should. Some books have crazy things injected into them, while some just exist, nuts as they are. This book has a kind of mad energy that just makes it all the more readable. 
I enjoyed this book so much more than I would have if I had sped through it, so I really recommend taking your time to read it and enjoy the observations about women and what we do to fit in. 
This is the second book I have read by this author and the second I have really felt like I could give to a bunch of my friends who have nothing but reading in common.
