A Stir of Echoes

Tom Wallace lived an ordinary life, until a chance event awakened psychic abilities he never knew he possessed. Now he's hearing the private thoughts of the people around him-and learning shocking secrets he never wanted to know. But as Tom's existence becomes a waking nightmare, even greater jolts are in store as he becomes the unwilling recipient of a compelling message from beyond the grave! This eerie ghost story, by award-winning author of Hell House and I Am Legend, inspired the acclaimed 1999 film starring Kevin Bacon.

As someone who can watch the Stir of Echoes movie repeatedly and never get tired of it, I was curious about the book that it was inspired from.
The movie used a lot of elements from the book, with some changes. Because of this, I was able to envision what was happening, but was able to be surprised with the conclusion.
This book genuinely spooked me at times. I'm not used to reading scary/thriller novels, so reading about ghosts was actually so spooky. I read when I was in a building alone, and was eyeing up the dark corners.
I really enjoyed the main families relationship. The love that they had for each other during this stressful period was very touching.
I am interested in this authors other books, as I really found his writing style very page turning and he really created a fascinating world.
10/10, planning on rewatching the movie in October!

6/12/18: Re-read this (eye reading) last night when I couldn't sleep. Still good. I thought this was a genuinely creepy story. The ending actually surprised me a little. I listened to it on audio. It's pretty effective that way.
