           Ya know, I had high hopes for this. I really did. I love Greek mythology and I had never seen anyone do a retelling/spin on the King Midas myth, which was always one of my favorites as a kid. But this was just. Not. Good. 

The characters are flat. Kora had zero personality. Hettie was a poorly sketched, cliche YA archetype. Aris was a villain just so the author could pull one over on the readers. Royce was not an interesting or likeable love interest. The crew of the pirate ship could have been this book’s redeeming factor if they had received the time, attention, and character development they deserved. But they didn’t. No one did. 

The main character’s powers don’t make any sense. She can sense the gold, okay. But suddenly, halfway through the book, she can just close her eyes and appear as a ghost anywhere that there is gold? What the FUCK lmao?? Also she can turn other people to gold but only under these very specific circumstances and blah blah blah. There were so many rules and it was all just stupid. 

The plot makes even LESS sense than Kora’s powers. Captain Skulls was like a Scooby Doo villain with no real motivation. So was the uncle (that plot twist was the dumbest thing ever). God, I’m just disappointed. What a disaster this was.

For a book that is supposed to focus on Greek Mythology this felt more like a pirate adventure, with no connection to it at all but for the fact that there is a King Midas in the story.
And the plot twists were not twists at all.

Por essa razão, Midas isolou-se, vivendo apenas fechado no castelo com os poucos objetos que transformou em ouro sempre perto de si. Kora, com a pele dourada desde aquele dia também vive isolada no castelo. Desde então que correm rumores sobre os poderes da princesa, mas verdadeiramente ninguém sabe do que ela é capaz, à exceção do seu pai e do seu tio que sempre a protegeu desde que Midas se isolou.
Desde menina que Kora sempre teve vontade de viajar e conhecer lugares novos, mas viaja apenas dentro dos seus livros. Tudo isso muda quando conhece um duque que parece trazer a esperança de finalmente abandonar o castelo, fazer-se ao mar e conhecer o mundo. O que acontece mais depressa do que pensou uma vez que alguém roubou os objetos de ouro de Midas, que sem eles fica muito vulnerável e vai desaparecendo de dia para dia. Assim, Kora, que tem a capacidade de sentir a presença do ouro, embarca numa aventura para o recuperar juntamente com o duque. Na sua viagem, tem encontros com piratas e sirenes, e nem tudo o que parece é. Kora terá que ter muito cuidado, pois os seus poderes são muito cobiçados e onde menos se espera.
Confesso que ao inicio foi uma leitura difícil, não estava a conseguir entrar na história, não me estava a conseguir ligar às personagens, mas à medida que se foi desenrolando foi ficando muito mais interessante. É uma fantasia bem construída com base numa premissa muito original, a lenda de Midas. Mas ao contrário de recontar essa história, focamos a nossa atenção na filha de Midas, ou seja, nas consequências da sua ganância para outras personagens dessa história. O romance que nasce entre Kora e o duque parecia florescer, mas na minha opinião não estava a ser natural e depois acabamos por perceber porquê. As consequências que vieram daí levaram a uma história muito melhor e com muito mais sentido. Gostei da personagem do Capitão Caveiras que é um pirata e um dos vilões porque achei engraçado (e mórbido, eu sei), que ele colecionasse as cabeças das pessoas que mata. O que mais me chocou neste livro foi definitivamente aquele final, se Kora achava que tinha passado um mau bocado na procura pelo ouro, então o que lhe esperava no seu retorno ao reino foi uma grande surpresa. Tenho que ler a continuação para saber como continua a sua história.

So this is a story of King Midas' daughter Kora. When she was little her father was granted a wish my the god Dionysis to turn what ever he touched to gold. He accidentally turns his daughter, he gets a cure for himself and Kora but doesn't do it completly. He is left with the need to be near the things that he already turned to gold, if not he gets weak.. Koras skin and hair turned back to gold, and she can sense the gold around her. along with being able to absorb gold from objects and transfer the gold to something else. 
Koras uncle has brought in a duke, to hopefully marry her. She doesn't think its going to go well as every other suitor has run away as soon as they see her face.. She has almost no human contact, and no one wants to be close to her.
Then her fathers gold is stolen and she goes on an adventure to retrieve it before he dies as she is the only one that can track where its going
She really comes into herself and her abilities as the story progresses. She gets closer to people, and lets them in emotionally.. 
There was betrayal around every corner, but it doesn't get her down for long.. There was tons of action and sword fighting. A real bad pirate guy that likes to cuts peoples head off and keep the skulls as prizes. I look forward to the next book to see where her romance is going, and how much she has changed while on the ship

I really enjoyed this read. I thought it was fun balance between political themed novel but also a sea adventure story. I really liked the pacing of this book and thought it was fast pace story. This book is not super long but quite a punch. I really loved the main character Kora in this read. I also really like how the myth was formed and loved the romance that was built in the story. I really am excited for book two!

I feel like my rating might have been higher but Scribd really messed with my experience with this book. I listened to so many parts over and over. I feel like some parts were skipped over. Either way, I still enjoyed this book!

I honestly don’t know what I thought this book was going to be about. I don’t read the synopsis thoroughly because I like to be surprised. I thought this was going to be a story completely about Midas. I’m glad we got the story of his daughter and how she comes to finally accept herself.

A Touch Of Gold follows Kora, King Midas’s daughter, who is a lonely princess who isn’t good at being a princess because no one will go near her. Her skin is gold thanks to her father’s curse. Her uncle is constantly trying to find someone to wed her so when her father does pass away, there will be a king.

Enter in Duke Wystlinos (I can’t for the life of me remember his first name and I don’t feel like looking for it because he sucks). Her uncle found him to try and woo Kora. When he arrives, King Midas’s gold is stolen. When King Midas is away from his cursed gold for too long, he could possibly perrish.

Kora and Duke Wystlinos go on an adventure to acquire the gold back.

I really liked this story! It was quick-paced and something was always going on. There wasn’t a dull moment. Except, I think I might have missed the part of Duke Wystilnos unfurls his plans. Oh well. Either way, I enjoyed this story!

I do plan on picking up the next book. I can’t wait to see what happens with Kora!

This was a fun spin off of the King Midas story. The concept and story was there for me but I feel as though it was missing some of the development. Some more description of the world and characters would've helped me become more invested in the story. There are heart-wrenching events in this book that I feel could've been more impactful had that development been there.

Enjoyable easy read with only the barest hint of romance. Kora comes across as a bad judge of character, as almost every first impression she has about other people is completely wrong. But I suppose since she has been secluded in the palace since age 6 or 7, this fault is plausible. It just got a little old the third or fourth time.
