Enjoyed the "they were married for convenience already in the beginning" trope. Although the male protagonist was particularly thick headed and slow in realizing he was in love in this one.

I don't know what we call this trope but we need more of it.

I'm beyond shocked I'm rating a historical romance almost 5 stars (Not talking about Outlander ofc because that will always be my favourite series of any genre) but something about this book just clicked with me. This is a genre I tend to avoid I think mainly because of the dialog, something about the way they talk makes it harder to connect. As someone who considers herself open to many genres, and tries to enjoy lots of books without judgment I tend to steer clear of regency romances. However, I'm blaming Bridgerton S2 for making me want a bit more HR in my life because damn it really did that to me LOL. So I'm attempting to throw away those biases especially after this one being a success I think maybe I passed it off too quickly. I came across  A Wicked Kind of Husband and I'm a huge sucker for hate to love, a marriage of convenience, slow burn romances. Wow! Shock as I still am by just how much I enjoyed it, I even felt a pang that the book was so close to being done. This book gave me a huge buzz and I had such a good time. There's humor, wit, emotional scenes, and a fantastic romance. Safe to say it delivered on all fronts, consider me sold. 

The banter and wittiness between Cassandra and Joshua was so much fun *chefs kiss*. At first, I wasn't the biggest Cassandra fan she just came across as so painfully naive, and I found certain ways she viewed things originally drove me insane. However, whenever Joshua managed to rile her up I started to catch a glimpse of a different side of her personality. Their dynamic was perfect I love how they had no plans to live anything but separate lives to not being able to live without each other. When they teamed up to help each other it was just so good seeing them become true partners. I loved their banter throughout it was those barbs they were trading at the beginning that got me invested. The fact they both gave as good as they got. They went from standing next to each other without even realizing they were married to not being able to enter a room without the other noticing.

 There was also some great emotional depth around loss and both have suffered and those scenes of them opening up about it where they truly connected. Really the chemistry and emotional aspects were both there and it made me believe in their passion and love. I loved Joshua's character yes in the beginning he had no respect for his wife and their marriage only in name, but I think that is what made the turnaround have a real impact. He definitely by the end worshipped the ground his wife walked on, and could not have found a better and more supportive equal.

He's so smart and sees the world in a different way than a lot of people but has been through a lot and doesn't bullshit around. When you first meet him he comes across as insensitive and detached, but there's so much love and compassion there it's just buried under a lot of pain. Was really one of my favourite things aside from the romance was getting to know his true character. I actually got so many quotes from this book a lot were thoughts in the other head and emotions they were holding back and well I'm me so that angst is the kind I gravitate towards.

 Heads up tw loss of a child. Also, if you're not a fan of miscommunication then maybe stay away because most of the conflict was assumptions being made on both sides. I kept being like are you both dense if you believe the other just is doing this out of obligation or to be rid of you. So yeah if you are driven insane by storylines that could be resolved by communicating feelings properly and not making their own assumptions then this will probably drive you crazy. Personally, I think it made sense for their characters and there were just so many good things to outweigh the mild annoyances. I fell for Joshua and Cassandra I will look into reading more and I just hope I still get to see them again even if in the background.

And to think…” She shook her head bitterly at the fine people swirling around them. “A few weeks ago, we strolled in this park and I wished I could be married to any of these other gentlemen and now—I would rather have no one if I cannot have him, while he counts the days till we part.”

“I hurt you because I was scared,” he whispered. “I was scared that you would leave me, that if I loved anything again I would lose it, and so from the start I tried to keep you away.”

“That’s what hearts do,” she said. “They break. Hearts love and hearts break and then they heal. Every hour, every day, we love and hurt and heal.” She pressed her hand over his heart. “Our hearts are broken now.”

I loved this book so much! I loved the banter and tension between Cassandra and Joshua, I also loved how fluffy and soft they got sometimes. 

Cassandra is such a good and nuanced heroine and Joshua is just is such a complex character and I loved his story so much. 

This book is everything

This book was utterly wonderful and I could read everything Mia Vincy has written but the tragedy is this is her first published book! Thankfully there is more to come as I have fallen head over heels for her writing and this book.

On my reread I would like to add the highlight of this book we’re the constant mentions of Birmingham. It kept popping up first as this epic place of business and then as a thorn in Cassandra’s side keeping her husband away. It made me smile and the references to the jewellery quarter! It was also mentioned in another of Mia Vincy’s books and I love a good reference in a book. Birmingham was such an industrial hub and there’s a reason it became known as England's second city! I didn’t realise I liked to see places I know mentioned in a book until I was reading this.

What a delightful debut novel! I'm always on the search for new historical romance authors, and I've found one in Mia Vincy. A Wicked Kind of Husband was so much fun to read, full of chemistry, wit, humor, and banter. I loved the way Cassandra and Joshua's relationship grew, though I had my own problems with Joshua. He was too stubborn for too long for my taste, but I loved the author's writing, so I'm looking forward to more from her. I'm not sure why the release of her books are out of order time-wise (a couple that has already gotten together in this book will be getting their book later), but as long as they come out, I'll read them.
