The Riverman be flying underneath ALL of the radars when really it should be flying right into them. 

Rogier brought The Riverman to my attention by saying it's a dark-portal Narnia type book & I was like ???? I'm here & ordered it right away. Plus, can you really say no to that beautifully drawn book cover? No, you can't.
 
The Riverman is incredibly intriguing because you really have 0 idea what direction the story will take. Is Fiona telling the truth? Is this part of her imagination? What the heck is Aquavania? There are so many questions that arose while reading this book, and I had no clue what or who to believe. 

The Riverman is perfectly paced; yes, at times, it felt slow but somehow the pacing lent a hand in creating such a heavy & dark atmosphere. 

And there are scenes that, whew, blew my mind & I was absolutely not expecting them in a book targeted at younger audiences. 

I absolutely adored The Riverman -- even though it's easily compared to Narnia, I found it to be extremely unique. & that ending definitely has me wanting to pick up the second book in the trilogy sooner than later.
