Great book. I enjoyed learning about a forgotten piece of history; as horrible/disturbing as Vahan's experiences were, I feel as though reading about based-on-true-events gives a voice to those who suffered. I felt that the author honored the man on whom this book was based. Bagdasarian used simple language and did not get lost on prose or descriptions, but communicated rather effectively this young boy's story and how it affected him. A job well done.

I had to read this for school, and although it was really interesting - as I had never read anything about the Armenain genocide - there were quite a few disturbing parts, and I wasn't strong enough to read all the details added in the scene.
