The book was good! Not as great as I expected but I would read to see the rest of the series because it think it’s going totally get better!! BUT THE TWISTS AND SPOILERS WERE CRAZY. Worth Reading

buddy read with claudia 💕 disclaimer: my thoughts are still all over the place, but i think i’ll pull this review off. now, i’ve had this book on my tbr for so long i basically just wanted to get rid of it, and i honestly think i’d never pick it up, but i didn’t realize how fucking invested i’ll be when i met lo and lily. i love them. they deserve the whole world. was the writing a mess and all over the place? of course. i never thought i’d finish this book but i fucking loved them. for one, i like how accurately written their addictions were and the struggles they have with it and i wish it was talked about more. i had a few realizations reading about addiction, especially one that is uncommon. there were times i got frustrated with lo and lily, but i also came to an understanding that it’s NOT and will NEVER be easy to just try and stop and they are aware of it. so i’ll be honest here, it’s basically the only thing i loved about this book (besides the coballoway crumbs 🦋✨🦋✨🦋✨🦋) secondly, i never realized how heavy and emotional i’ll feel reading about two people co-dependent on each other to enable their addictions so i don’t really care about the romance at the moment because even i can’t fucking discern what’s real and not anymore. i cared more about reading them try to get better with a painfully realistic journey for readers to see, making this heartbreaking to an extent. because again, accepting that you need help and taking that next step forward to recovery will never be easy road to walk on. so will i pick up the next book? damn right i will. truth be told, i cannot believe i just ate up a book that’s literally just about trust fund kids with rich parents and so very very white 🫠
It was honestly an okay type of book. The characters and the plot itself is kind of cliché but it was an easy read. I will say the world building is a bit weak but understandably so knowing the main point of the book is the intertwined issues of the character. I just think the whole upper class/rich environment felt pretentious and not believable. It had me at "Gossip Girl" but what even is that? Calloway Couture? Bye. At some point, I got tired of Lily’s thought process and it was hypocritical for her to act out when Lo brought a woman home when all this time, she brings whoever home (I'm not saying this to shame her but like be serious right now.). It is sad to see her break just so Lo would be okay. Lo is not safe in my book, though not as bad as some other book guys. It is concerning though how much he tries to tease and get into Lily's nerve... it was shitty at some point. It's like he's using her addiction against her. I just wouldn’t continue the series because it gets boring and dragged out.

alors laaaaa ! je m’attendais pas du tout à aimer. je suis rarement happée par les romances contemporaines mais là ça m’a eu. fort. c'est très peu accès sur la romance en fait, mais sur les addictions et le combat que l'on a avec soi même pour lutter contre. un petit côté gossip girl/magnolia parks, mais en plus humain lily et lo existent pour de vrai pour moi à partir de maintenant <3

This book was intense, and I read it in one sitting. I loved the complexity of the characters, and I'm excited to see their journey. I could tell this book was meant to be an opening to the characters, their world. I didn't hate it, but I also didn't like it. However, I understand that this book is an opening to the series, and that's why it was written this way. It did make me want to read the following books because it made me want to know what will happen next. I also can't wait to read about Rose and Connor, I think they're my favorite characters, and I hope their books don't disappoint.
I loved this book. lily and lo are 100% toxic, enablers, and not good for each other but boy oh boy do I love me some toxic angst. scratched an itch in my brain that I needed it to, and the plot twist blew my entire fucking mind. I didn’t see it coming at all

i love them sm, the reason behind loren’s addiction made me sad and lily’s addiction also i’ve never thought it would feel like that, but lilo is perfect for each other. - "I’ve never pretended, Lil. We've been together, even if you thought it was some fucking lie. We just weren't having sex” - "I love you, but I want to love you enough that I never choose alcohol over you. Not even for a moment. I want to be some one you deserve. Who helps you rather than enables you, and I can't begin to do that until I get help for myself." - “He's my drug that I gladly consume, and I think that's what he fears most. He enables my addiction. Always has. And the longer we're together,he always will.” - “I love you. I’ll wait for you! You’re my best friend and my soul mate and my lover. I’m so proud of you. Please…come back to me.”
** spoiler alert ** Thoughts: — I've come to really like Loren.. not love but like.. — I can't say for certain, but I can feel Lily Calloway becoming one of my favorite characters. — I LOVE rcc. — I've already made up my mind to dislike Ryke (for..reasons.) — And I love Rose for being a supportive sister. I really do.

Took me a little bit mostly because I think that I wasn’t in the right headspace to read about addiction but I do have to say the main character Lily is very annoying. She’s very whiny I just I just didn’t like it. Maybe I read it again when I’m in the right headspace.

Loved it I just think Lilly was doing too much!! This book has great character build!! I may seem slow but it's worth every bit of detail?! I have it a 4 out of 5 because Lilly! But the added plot twist was amazing I didn't see it coming till I later on the book. I'm sure the others are better!!

“Anderson,” Lo says tensely. Anderson, Jonathan Hale’s driver, the guy who has been known to rat us out.

“Have a nice night,” Anderson says with a fake smile. He spins back to the front, waiting for us to leave.

I stare at a pair for a long moment, their gray hair short and nearly identical. They bicker about a spill on the man’s shirt, and the woman leans over to help him wipe it up.
I want that to be us. I want to grow old and yell at Lo for dribbling coffee. I want him to be my forever.
For the first time, he may be on the right path towards reaching that. I can only hope I’ll join him too.
He’s about to eliminate alcohol completely from his life. He hit his rock bottom.

I can’t think about helping Lo detox and doing the same myself. So I’m going to focus on him, and then when he gets better, I’ll worry about me. That seems right.

Being in a real relationship was supposed to fix the kinks in our lives. It should’ve made our problems easier. We no longer have to pretend. We can be ourselves. We’re free from one lie.

We stay like that for quite some time. And I start to fall back asleep, my eyes heavy. And then I hear his voice, so soft, that I think I’ve made up the words.
“I should have just had sex with you.”

Sometimes I picture the future.
Loren Hale working for his father’s Fortune 500 company, dressed in a tight fitting suit that chokes at the collar. He’s sad. I never see him smile in my imagined futures. And I wouldn’t know how to rectify it.
What does Loren Hale love? Whiskey, bourbon, rum. What can he possibly do past college?
…I see nothing.
Red welts surface on my exposed arms.
“Your elbows are blushing,” he tells me, a smile growing as he re-pours.

Lo swoops in behind me, his arms flying around my waist. He sets his chin on my shoulder, hunching over a little to counter my short height with his tall.
I'm so confused on their relationship because I know that they are/will be a couple in the series - I guess I thought for some reason that they would be strangers at first lol
