Incredible. A much quieter book than the others in the series, but it was just my speed. This is a series that makes you think differently about humanity and life, and this book was no exception. It was almost entirely a book without humans in, and yet the author succeeded at making me care about the many different forms of life in the story. The worldbuilding continued to be amazing. I will be thinking about the sentient corvids who don’t believe they (or anyone else) is sentient for ages, along with their philosophy of what life really is. In a world that seems to have temporarily turned against AI, a new form of life born 

 was just what I needed from this series. This one felt like an ending, but I wouldn’t object to more explorations of humanity and sentience from Tchaikovsky, who has fast become my favourite author.
