A Caribbean Heiress in Paris
Reviews

The convenience marriage trope at its best! Sprinkled with a strong woman of color, at the top of her game running a rum distillery and a dash of anti colonialism, women’s rights and hot sex. Highly recommend!

A new historical romance series? Yes, please! This one popped up in the spring reading guide in Good Housekeeping’s April issue, so I added it to my TBR and genuinely looked forward to reading it. I love romance and I LOVE historical romance even more. When I finally got to this one in my queue, I was thrilled. Upon completion of this book, I enjoyed it. While reading, however, it stumbled a few times. I found myself excruciatingly bored more than once; thankfully, the recovery was quick. Luz Alana is a strong female lead with an agenda, a plan, and a whole lot of rum. Her merry band of mates included her sister, her cousin, and her doctor friend. On the way to London from the Caribbean, they decided that under no circumstances would any of them fall in love. Luz Alana was in agreement, until Evan showed up and proved all men are jerk buckets. Their arrangement started out as business only, but that changed pretty quickly and very drastically (there was some SPICE in this one!). The spicy scenes are some of the best I’ve read in a long time, Herrera knows how to, um, describe…um…spice. I used to be a “phone actress,” with plenty of experience talking about…spice…but this one made me blush more than once. Hats off to Herrera for that. I found myself REALLY looking forward to the blowout with Evan’s father…I was on pins and needles for over half the book, but I was hugely disappointed. I felt like there should have been more proverbial fireworks involved, so it was a hefty let-down for me. That, and the areas of boredom, caused the four stars instead of the five. It’s an enjoyable historical romance and I am looking forward to further books in this series.
