I believe I still have a lot of Agatha Christie reading to do. I'm still having trouble identifying the culprit. Captain Trevelyan's murder was a well-thought-out operation that was undoubtedly motivated by Major Burnaby's despair. Unlike Agatha's previous works, this one was difficult for me to finish, but even so, I think it's incredibly well written. This one gave us Emily as a new heroine.

A quite average mystery novel with hardly any Poirot in it. Too many cooks in the kitchen, as it turned out. Enjoyable, but not something I would read again one day.

Honestly, this is a great, classic example of an Agatha Christie story. You have the investigators, the chattering old ladies, the suspicious loose ends and the red herrings, and, of course, you have the murder. This one lacks Agatha Christie's signature stars, but it doesn't lose anything for it. Instead, you follow different characters as they try to discover who really did the deadly crime of murdering Mr. Trevelyan.

All in all, it's a good story for the genre of the time. It's really more of a 4.5 star read for me, but I rounded up to tick the average in my ideal direction. I liked Emily Trefusis as a main character, and especially her decision at the end which I thought was a lot more sensible than some of Christie's endings for her female characters. All in all, a thoroughly enjoyable mystery. I would definitely recommend it to others.

This did have a good plot twist, but it only picked up the pace in the last couple of chapters. Also, there were some twists that could be considered lazy writing and very un-Agatha Christie. This is the second Christie book this year I've rated low. It's possible she was writing so many and had deadlines with her publishers that led her writing to be weaker and rushed. It was still impossible to guess who did it though, I mean this is the Queen of Mystery we're talking about here.

So I guessed both the murderer and the motive but I ain't even mad; this was quality entertainment.

What I really like about this one is that the clues come not so much from things the murderer says and does as from bits of dialogue from the other characters. Each of these tidbits actually relates to a different person or situation but they all hint at whodunit and why (and, indeed, how). Excellent stuff.

PS: Special mention to time-travelling Agatha Christie for naming one of the characters Dr Strange. I appreciate that kind of dedication to setting up a Marvel/Christie Universe.

Even though I prefer stories with one of the main detectives, I didn’t mind this one too much.
I find it quite mysterious and I enjoyed the whole séance business.

Once again, I didn’t really care for the romance, there is some love story in all her books and I always feel just meh about them. I am here for the murder, for the investigation, the twists, the deceit.

Which I got regardless, and I am glad for it. The mystery was nicely convoluted, and there were many characters who could have done it. The interrogations were numerous and so enjoyable, and the ending was good!
I kind of did see it coming, it wasn’t that surprising and it is reminiscent of a couple other books by Agatha, so I wasn’t as surprised as other times. Still, loved this.

This was really enjoyable, even though I had an inkling on the identity of the suspect, and a vague idea of the identity of the killer.
It has the few elements I prefer in Agatha's books, the rather remote location and the explanation of the crime in the living room in front of the suspects.
I loved the collaboration between Poirot and Satterthwaite, and as usual I loved the investigation and the reveal at the end.

Exams are killing me so I didn't have a chance to enjoy this as much as i would like to but even then i can say it was a great read, the lack of poirot was a bit disappointing but the story was brilliant! had my suspicions but couldn't really prove them, still proud of myself though. Cant say I enjoyed this anywhere near as much as Death on the Nile, that book will probably be always my top Agatha Christie story.

Oh, Hercule Poirot did it again. 
I think that for a moment I suspected who the murder was, so it didn't take by surprise. But I still enjoyed it a lot
