This book is great as a general guide, especially for non historians, and it was written with this purpose. Obviously, it doesn’t cover all themes with the same level of complexity or depth. But that’s understandable considering the extent of the subject. And Hobsbawm included a list of books that expand in specific topics, if the reader wants to learn more.
He uses a lot of statistic data and I suppose it can be a bit difficult if you’re not used to this kind of analysis.
In general, he makes succinct analysis that aren’t overly simplistic.
I have to say that I didn’t read all of the chapters, though I read most, and I didn’t read them in order, so this is a partial impression. But I do hope to read it fully in the future.
