Just as rich and lovely as Akata Witch. A truly enjoyable read. It left me wanting more and I hope a third book that details Sunny helping Chichi fulfill her quest for Udide is forthcoming.

Not much time has passed since Sunny's first outing in Akata Witch (a year and a half) but the story has shifted from what was largely a tale of initiation and education into a full-blown epic, with the fate of the world, along with Sunny’s entire identity – in the balance. Similar to Akata Witch, one of the main threats of this book is the malevolent mas­querade named Ekwensu, who intends to usher in the apocalypse. 
 
 This is one of most imaginative and fabulous fantasies I have ever read. It is filled with so much imagination, humor, action, mythology, and heart. It is truly quite unique. Akata Warrior is an entertaining and action-packed book with a lovable heroine at its center. It's a book about family, friends, and gaining self-knowledge. And it is about a girl who’s just trying to find her place in the world, when she’s called upon to save it. 
 
I also think (as many have noted) that this is a unique coming of age story, coupling the distinct experience of the cultural duality as both African and African-American with lessons of love, loyalty, and the pains of adolescent insecurities. 

I look forward to experiencing more magic and adventure in a third installment.
