The mighty revolution was an impetuous outburst, a single, strange, beautiful flower appearing out of a swamp. Our revolution was a sudden unexpected divergence from the path determined by Egyptian genes, after which everything quickly went back to normal and we found ourselves out of context, disowned, wanted by no one, sympathised with by no one and regarded by everyone as the cause of all their problems.

I really enjoyed this though im always cautious of reading political writing from people in exile from a country I do not know much about and without knowing the context you might be reading propaganda nonetheless I really enjoyed this account of the failed revolution in Egypt 2011.

I loved how he accounted for various forms of oppression and corruption in different parts of egyptian society such as between men and women, religious contradictions, state and the people. As someone from an african country that is in much need of a revolution this book should be a cautionary tale on the dangers of a revolution with no revolutionaries to borrow from Asef Bayet book on the Arab Spring.
