3.5 stars. Creepy as hell! I loved it and was jumpy after reading it.

This was fun! I picked this up solely based off some reviews I had read and wasn’t expecting it to be middle grade (sometimes it’s so hard to gauge these things from other people’s reviews). It was still a pretty good book, though definitely not very scary. More in line with Goosebumps style horror than adult horror, but still an enjoyable read, especially for October. I had a great and breezy time reading this, but ultimately it was a very simple, surface level book (which makes sense for middle grade).

Frozen Charlotte by Alex Bell is an exciting, creepy book in the Red Eye series. The story begins almost immediately, and thickens unexpectedly throughout the entire book.

Sophie, who recently lost a close friend in what she suspects was more than just an accident, travels to Skye to stay with her uncle and cousins. The last time she was there, Rebecca... well, she was alive. 

Desperate to uncover the truth, Sophie is faced with unbelievable tales and countless lies from her cousins. This book is perfect for plot-twist-lovers, as there are strange bends and discoveries in every chapter.

Personally, I loved how the story began immediately, rather than with some long winded introduction that isn't really all that relevant to the plot. It really drew me in straight from the start, and I must admit that I enjoyed it more than I initially thought I would.

The writing style is somewhat simplistic in my opinion, and rather matter-of-fact. Despite this, there are still some wonderful descriptions and although sometimes I did find it a bit too simple, some people very much admire this kind of writing.

Frozen Charlotte is a wonderfully creepy book, full of endless surprises and anticipation to read on. It captures the creepy atmosphere wonderfully, and is not for those who are not admirers of death, murder, horror or perhaps even gore. Captivating from the first page, it really is a great read. However, I was not all that keen on the simplicity of the writing and so am giving it 3.5 stars out of the full 5.

Es bueno variar de género en libros, así te mantienes fresco, hay muy pocas probabilidades que entres en un bloqueo porque cada libro es diferente. El problema viene cuando eres un gato cobarde y empiezas a leer un libro de terror en medio de la noche.

Toda mi vida le he tenido terror a las muñecas, TODA mi vida. Tanto así que cuando tenía seis años y mis tíos me regalaron una para navidad, no hubo forma que yo la sacara de su caja y cuando tuve que llevarla conmigo a mi cuarto (porque al parecer es de mala educación hacer explotar una muñeca que te acaban de regalar), su caja miraba a la pared. No tengo idea que fue de esa muñeca, creo que la regalé o simplemente desapareció…

Lo curioso con Frozen Charlotte, si se puede llamar curioso a fantasmas que vienen del más allá y muñecas asesinas, es que empieza siendo un novela de terror y termina en una novela medio policial. Y creo que ese ha sido su error. Lamentablemente todo el libro tiene los clichés de las películas de terror, lo que en una película funciona bastante bien obviamente y en el libro no le estaba yendo tan mal, el problema es que hay demasiados vacíos, nuestra protagonista al principio parece ser que, en busca de justicia, enfrentará todo y no dejará que nada la confunda. El problema es que ella no se da cuenta de la verdad a menos que la golpee contra una pared y trate de matarla. Incluso hay un momento en que en un solo capítulo la mitad de los personajes le dicen de qué tiene que cuidarse, para que en el siguiente capítulo terminé sorprendida de todas maneras.

Quiero que entiendas, kitten, que sí me gustó, lo leí rapidísimo pero no es una lectura que vaya resaltar por su complejidad o gran trama. Puedo recomendar este libro para quienes, como yo, no han leído nada de terror antes y les gustaría investigar el género, porque sí, asusta un poquito pero no demasiado.

Y acabo de enterarme que es parte de una colección de libros: RED EYE, que la editorial Little Tiger Group ha lanzado con libros de terror para niños. O sea que es en cierta forma una serie pero son libros únicos. Si son como Frozen Charlotte estarán bastante buenos :D

It’s been a long time since a book scared the hell out of me.

Frozen Charlotte has one of the most creepiest first chapters I’ve ever read. And even though I got hooked immediately, I had to stop once in a while to calm myself down and look around me. To be honest, I got a little scared (and it definitely gave me some sleepless nights) to continue but the story was really intriguing.

There were so many things that I loved about this book. Let me start with the setting. The story takes place in an old school for girls turned into a “normal” family home where Sophie’s Uncle and cousins live. It’s a perfect setting! Then we have a very intriguing cast of characters. Each of them has their own secrets that will definitely makes you ask yourself if you can trust them or not. Next are the Frozen Charlotte dolls. I didn’t have any idea about these dolls so I ended up searching about them which was a wrong move because it actually lessened the surprise factor for me. Then lastly, the author’s fantastic writing. The story flows naturally. The descriptions were very vivid which added so much more intensity to the story. And I think this book will make a great horror movie.

Why not perfect 5? I thought the possible romance is not necessarily. It actually made me a bit uncomfortable. Also, I’d love to know more about the origin of the dolls in this story.

I appreciate the “not for children” warning at the back of the book. I think all books must have this especially if there are sensitive scenes/issues in the story.

I highly recommend this book if you’re looking for a perfect read for this coming Halloween.

Frozen Charlotte was a seriously gripping book. I love anything horror, and quite enjoy the thrill of being scared. This book was written in such an intelligent way that I almost forgot it was a horror book as it feel so comfortably into a crime genre.

To me, Sophie was so endearing and I felt excited to follow along with her adventure. She certainly didn’t let her fear hold her back and chased the story even when she wanted to give up.

For me, the dolls added a serious creep factor as they are something I hate in real life. This is a fantastic read and I strongly recommend it.

Captivating. Terrifying. A total page turner from my part.
I am not sure what I could say about this book without spoiling anything,but it was a truly impressive read.I was soo intrigued and scared at all times-the writer must be a genius. 
Probably gonna check on the prequel soon enough.
