"Stella Starflake Pearl just wants to be part of the Polar Bear Explorers Club. But Stella's a girl, and everyone knows that girls aren't allowed to be explorers. Stella's ready to prove everyone wrong"--

The Polar Bear Explorers' Club

It sounded like a respectable and worthy enough death for an explorer - tumbling from an ice bridge to be impaled upon a mammoth tusk - but Stella really, really didn't want that to happen, just the same. Join Stella Starflake Pearl and her three fellow explorers as they trek across the snowy Icelands and come face-to-face with frost fairies, snow queens, outlaw hideouts, unicorns, pygmy dinosaurs and carnivorous cabbages . . . When Stella and three other junior explorers get separated from their expedition can they cross the frozen wilderness and live to tell the tale?

This was a cute and funny middle grade polar fantasy about a group of four explorers being separated from the main group and their adventures around the Iceland. The characters were quite lovely and their backstories were deep and did not shy away from the more darker themes of grief and loss.
This tale was filled with many different creatures that I liked reading about, and I want to know what other creatures Bell will come up with next.
What I didn't like about the book was that Stella, at times, read a little young. Closer to 7 or 8 instead of 12, but I guess that can happen with middle grade books. I also don't know how I feel about the ending. It was sweet and set up for the next book, but there were dark elements to it that were in stark contrast to the rest of the story.

I absolutely loved this one!! This is one of my favorite middle grade books. I will definitely continue the series.

A good adventurous and winter read! I felt tho that it wanted to have so many things in the book that we didn't spend much time with each of those things. It was quite magical so I just wanted more. So I am excited for the next one!

This was so good! I can't wait for the sequel to fall on my doormat!

This was really cute. I loved the characters as well as the storyline. It was well paced and well developed and I cannot wait for the next one. It is an easy read being middle grade but I still got a lot of pleasure from reading it. Recommend for anybody who wants a fun, polar adventure story.
