I've enjoyed each of the books in this series. Isabel Dalhousie is a smart, strong, and good-hearted character. As in the #1 Ladies Detective Agency books, the main character concerns herself with everyday mysteries that usually revolve around what it means to be human, to be ethical, to be kind. In case that sounds boring, McCall Smith said "Kindness needn't be dull ... it can also be elevating and moving."<br /><br /><br />Like his Isabel, McCall Smith was the editor of an ethics journal, so his depiction of Isabel's work ring true. Throw in some mystery, some romance, and some great descriptions of Edinburgh and its people, and you have a perfect concoction for a Sunday afternoon.

A nice, quick read. What I enjoyed most in this book was the Edinburgh setting and Isabel's character. I have to say I expected a bit more action and a little less philosophy but it was still an enjoyable read.
