Keeper of the Shadows is the third book on a series focused on three cousins that have inherited from their respective fathers the role of keepers of the supernatural creatures that live incognito in our society. This time, the protagonist is Barrie Gryffald, the Canyon shapeshifter keeper, and the last cousin to have her story told. Besides being a keeper, Barrie is also a journalist and she unites both activities in the investigation of the death of a Hollywood tycoon and a young male shapeshifter prostitute. At first sight, nothing seems to connect both deaths, but as Barrie investigates deeper, the more the two deaths seem to be related to an old cult movie surrounded in superstition and mystery.

And as if that wasn't enough, Barrie still has to deal with Mick Townsend, her new coworker, to whom she feels dangerously attracted to, and who seems to have too many secrets of his own and not be exactly what he appears... Just like Barrie, I was constantly trying to figure out his true intentions (even though I realized, way before Barrie, his true identity...) and if she could really trust him or not.

It's always a pleasure to return to the Canyon keeper's universe. I still adore the relationship between the three cousins and I enjoyed seeing Rhiannon and Brodie, and Sailor and Declan again. I also really liked the dynamics between Barrie and Mick. The villain was not that hard to identify, but it was nice to realize that, even though each book is written by a different author, there is a continuity in all three books and whose conclusion is reached in this book.

Even though all the cousins have already had their story told, there is still a fourth book, Keeper of the Dawn, centered in Alessande Salisbrooke, an elf keeper that has previously appeared in the other books and that I'm surely going to read. And since the series doesn't just stick with the keeper cousins, I'd love it if one of the characters that appears in this book, and that is left with no closure (I can't reveal who it is because it would be a spoiler), would also get a happy ending. Maybe with a keeper we still don't know?
