« men who swear undying love sometimes have the worst intentions in the world... »

i have finally finished this after two months of trying to focus on it but having other book club and buddy reads. and i'm extremely sad at having finished it now, despite my frustration with the time it took me to get through it.

i had read it as a child, a child friendly version of course, and i had forgotten just how much i love swashbuckling tales. i genuinely had so much fun reading it and trying to reconcile 17th century france with the places i have visited over the years. 

i grew up with the tales of d'artagnan and even visited his place of death, so i couldn't help but feel some sort of link to this young man and this family of soldiers he managed to create for himself with athos, porthos and aramis. the latter my favourite of them all.

some of the passages i liked the least were the treatments of the women in this story. from milady to ketty to constance, they deserved so much better and i felt so much anger at what dumas and the men in this story put them through. 

milady, even though i have my grievances against some of her actions did not deserve the horrible treatment men put her through her whole life. they, in my opinion, were as guilty of her actions as she was. 

i cannot wait to sit down and read the rest of d'artagnan's story because i genuinely feel like i'm leaving dear friends behind.
