I was sooo into this right until the ending. That totally ruined it for me - the explanation for why he was into her made no sense and felt shoehorned in. Ugh I know this is a short read but I was disappointed.

That was a tonne of fun! Something that I was really needing right now was easy, casual entertainment after a couple of real head scratching fever dream books, and this was the antidote. As always Ali Hazelwood's writing is just so digestible, there's something about it that feels so comfortable to me, like coming home after a hard day at work and wrapping yourself in a warm blanket. Even when I don't love the story she creates I still enjoy her writing, the banter and dry sarcasm, the way she writes the love interests as if she can reach into your mind and knows exactly the type of man you've been searching for (ahhh men written by women huh), it really should be studied. This novella was no different, it may be under 100 pages but it packs a lot into a short amount of time. We get a good background story, an understanding of their character dynamics, tension, character development, and a satisfying story that wraps itself up so perfectly I want to eat it up.

The tropes in this were some of my favourites as well so that's probably another reason why I loved it. It was like a gender bending 

 but drawn out over centuries, with hisotrical moments, contemporary romance vibes and a slice of paranormal which is just perfect for this time of the year. I also couldn't help but invisage Laszlo and Nadja from 

 as the two main characters, which increased the entertainment for me even more. Aethelthryth is a millenia old vampire who just wants companionship and a quiet life of enjoying the humdrum and small moments, Lazlo Enyedi is a centuries old vampire slayer who has been contracted to end her bloodline. But he has a secret that only comes out after he bonks his head and loses his memories, forgetting who he and her are and what they mean to each other. The connection between these two was just so great, the flirtatious chemistry despite them trying to kill each other is so good and it just made me want more!

I want a full length novel of this story, I would eat it right up. In fact I'm going to go read 

 very soon just to satiate my desire for more Ali Hazelwood paranormal sexy romance. I would definitely recommend this story to anyone who needs an amusing palette cleanser that is perfect for helping you reach your reading goal and will only take you a few hours to get through (or less if you're a faster reader than me). It's a pretty typical Hazelwood book in all the standard ways, an overly huge super handsome MMC and beautiful FMC who is totally unaware of the effect she has on him, a fun spice scene which doesn't overtake the plot and all of the funny little eyerolled quips that you come to expect from her books. I just don't think I'll ever get enough of her writing!

  This was one of her funnier books where I didnt mind any if the references made. Lazlo and Ethel were interesting and Hazelwood did a pretty good job and explaining their connection in such a short time frame. The quick sex was disappointing because shes usually better at writing foreplay but I guess after hundreds of years you skip to the finale 🤷🏽‍♀️ Also I think she got some vampire slayer inspiration from the Witcher maybe? The whole eye color change and superhuman abilities. Supernatural books are truly one of Hazelwoods calling and I'm mad this was so short.

this was such a fun read. i thoroughly enjoyed the characters and their dynamic. i wish it was longer purely so we could get more inside on their pasts. lazlo was clearly a pining loser (lovingly said) and i LOVED that. aethelthryth was lowkey funny and i loved her bad. 

ps. i added half a star based on the fact that ali finally let go of the miscommunication trope. so proud of her for that.
