The Love Hypothesis

Contemporary romance. Fake dating, slow burn and spice meets STEM/Academia. A bit predictable, but an easy read for someone who likes hallmark/romcom books. Although it was a simple read. This book does a good job touching on women’s discrimination in STEM and their struggles becoming scientists. It was a fun read overall. Who doesn’t love a HEA!!

This was a cute, easy read but it didn’t totally blow me away. 

I really enjoyed the slow burn between Olive and Adam. It had some genuinely sweet moments that kept me reading but parts of the story felt a little predictable and overhyped for me. 

Still, it’s a fun, light romance when you’re in the mood for something nerdy, awkward, and a little swoony. Solid 3 stars!

finally gave in and read this, and i ended up enjoying it much more than i thought i would! i can see why this is the book that catapulted ali hazelwood to fame — so far, i think it might actually be the best out of the books i’ve read by her. it has all her standard storytelling tropes laid out in their most refined form. did not realize i was reading it at such a timely moment w the movie? series? (i can never tell lol) coming out soon, so i’ll be tuning in!

Not to be dramatic, but The Love Hypothesis single-handedly revived my will to read. The slow burn? Immaculate. The tension? Had me kicking my feet, giggling, and putting the book down just to process. And the fact that it wasn’t dual perspective?? Honestly so refreshing – it just flowed effortlessly, and I was hooked from page one.

Olive and Adam’s dynamic had me obsessed. The character development felt so real that by the end I was basically part of their friend group (in my mind). I can’t remember the last time a romance gave me such a serotonin boost. 10/10, would fake date a grumpy professor again.

listen this book is fun, but also im just kinda picky about whats a good rom to me, but its still a fun turn your brain off read. 

that being said, this was reylo fic and you can kinda tell, because to me im just not invested in these characters/didnt really feel their chemistry. which makes sense cause in fanfic you dont have to develop that people just go already invested. the main girl character is also annoying and dumb. man is texting her “wish you were here” and shes like damn, too bad he doesnt like me :(. and its like girl lol. additionally we have to hear how evil the main guy is every other sentence and like the worst thing he does is tell someone their research isnt good and like, thats not evil? thats just being a good professor. 

ALSO this book really did piss me off in the first 5 pages, canada does have thanksgiving. its just on a different day!!!!!!

0.5 bc i cant give it a zero. bad writing cliche tropes too much happening. ahn and malcolm and holden being there for diversity points took years off my life and so did the sorry excuse for sex scene which imo added nothing to the book. we need better conflicts in romance novels that dont revolve around someone harassing a woman and her LI in turn fighting them. its cringey! and not in a fun way! like half the book could have been cut away. why did characters act like teenagers YOURE GROWN. i wish this had stayed on ao3.
