Listen. To. Me. I fucking loved this book. Like zero complaints at all about this one. Let’s get into it. 

After the death of her father, Mina is cast into the care of her older, half brother, Jeremy, Viscount Faris, a man she doesn’t know and never knew existed. He bustles her away to a lonely inn, The Merry Harlot, a rough establishment where prizefighters hold bare knuckle brawls once a month. Once there, Jeremy forces Mina into a marriage with William Nye, the owner of the inn and a large, broody, grumpy prizefighter. 

William. Nye. Y’all I thought this was a clean romance?? (I do not know why actually). Oh no ma’am. William Nye is a dirty talking grump and I almost lost my shit when I read some of the stuff that comes out of his mouth in bed. He’s the epitome of a grumpy, broody, rough man and I was feral over him. No exaggeration. He’s also a jealous, possessive hero and honestly, some of my favorite moments involve him being jealous. All that aside though, the way that he silently goes about improving himself and the inn all for Mina just melted my heart. He wanted to be respectable and go legit since she was a gently raised lady. I loved it so much. Top ten book boyfriends of all time. 

Mina. Oh man I loved her. Her whole world gets upended and she doesn’t cower or break down. She just barrels right through and tries to make the best of her situation. She stands up to William, who she lovingly calls Nye. She doesn’t let him run rough trod over her. And it definitely gets to the point where she forces William to actually try instead of just course correcting her constantly. I adored her and her tenacity. 
 
I also have to give some love to Jeremy, Mina’s aristocratic brother. I really thought I was going to hate him because he was a bit of an ass in the beginning. But he and Mina form a loving sibling relationship and I just loved it so much. He really went to bag for her at the end. I really felt for him and his crumbling marriage. I want a book about him so badly! 

All in all. This book was wonderful. It strays away from the typical aristocracy historical romance novels and shows the middle class. There’s a healthy dash of suspense in this one and an ongoing smuggling ring that William Nye might be caught up in. I adored this.
