I have yet to be let down by Joseph Fink. I really enjoyed this. Keisha is a great character, and all of the smaller side characters were awesome too. Normally I hate when the main story breaks off for a quick scene about more irrelevant characters, but something about Fink’s style makes me look forward to those creepy/horrifying glimpses. I loved watching the mystery unravel. 

I also love that this features queer characters without the story being about their queerness. Just two women who love each other. And I love the way that the idea of forgiveness is handled. In so many books, characters get immediately forgiven because they were “doing what’s best for their partners”. Here, everyone gets held accountable for everything they do. I really appreciated that. 

I will say this was definitely a bit slower toward the beginning, but by the end, it 100% picked up speed. I finished this very quickly, and the end was my favorite part. I love endings that wrap things up nicely while also hinting that there’s something more to come.

I was intrigued by the plot description and when I realized this was written by one of the brains behind the "Welcome to Night Vale" podcast, I knew I had to read it. I was not disappointed. This was absolutely gruesome in parts, but uplifting as well.
