The Last Text

Merrick is still grieving his partner and sends a happy birthday message to his old phone number. That phone number now belongs to Jace, who replies to the message, and they start texting each other.

I really liked Merrick and Jace, and how they got to know each other. Merrick is still dealing with the loss of his partner and Jace is extremely patient and helps Merrick see that he shouldn’t stop living his life.

There were side characters, who I thought were shown enough, given the length of this book. I really liked the dinner Jace goes to with Merrick’s family, and the scenes at the wedding were hilarious – Gramps was the best.

Both Merrick and Jace have pets, and I really liked Merrick’s rats, but Jace’s dog wasn’t shown at all until the end.

This book was great and the only way this could have been better was if the book was longer. I definitely want to try other books by this author.
