This is my 3rd Carrie Hope Fletcher Book and much like the 2 that I have read before this one I enjoyed getting lost in this one and escaping to a world that is full of food especially sweet treats! It’s a book that has a lot of deeper meaning and I loved the synergy between the cakes and the story itself!

This one is about a Woman called Cherry who has powers that only a select small group of people on earth have that she can see bad personalities and negative emotions of a person. Cherry also loves to bake so she uses her power to help everyone around her through her baking. One day, she moves to a new town to help them, but Chase threatens to destroy her years of work. none of them know that the Guild is seeking them, working to destroy every good deed they have done, and working to destroy them, the one of a 100. The only ones with those powers. Now here's a catch. Chase sees the good emotions of a person.

I loved the emotions that this book portrays and the way it describes emotions like hate and happiness it amazing. They are described as monsters, and I can really imagine them in real life. And the story plot was amazing. This was magical realism done well. Carrie has a way of writing that I have never seen or read before and it’s a refreshing to discover a new Author that I love.

4.5 The one part that I thought was odd was how this book switches genre's with almost no warning about 70% of the way though the book. 

Characters 5/5

I loved Chase and Cherry I thought they were so sweet as a couple. They might not have started out as a couple, but they ended up being very cute. I didn't love Chase's mother or his aunt, but I understand why they were there, the same goes for the characters that were The Guild.

I enjoyed the story, but I wanted to know when we were going to switch genre's from a light fluffy romance to a heavy dystopian sort of a setting. Some readers might have liked this, and once I got used to the change, I was enjoying the story, but it was so much of a change.

This was my first time reading this authors fiction and I think she is a fantastic writer! I will definitely be reading more of her books.

The story had such a steady pace and I loved that. The light scenes were fast and the more dramatic and emotional scenes were just that.

I think the problem with this book, for me, is that it wasn't anything special. The title and summary suggest something magical, something that will stick with me far past finishing. And it didn't. It fell flat. Everyone I know who has read Carrie's books have said how wonderful they are, and although this doesn't mean I have something against Carrie as a person, I just don't think it deserves the high praise it gets. It's good. It's enjoyable. But it isn't anything new.

The whole book felt rushed. I felt as if I didn't have enough time to properly enjoy the journey that Cherry was going on, especially once her romance with Chase started. It almost felt as if they hated each other the one minute, and then they were proclaiming they couldn't live without each other the next. 

Overall, I think the concept was lovely. A girl who could see all the bad feelings in the world, and who made it her mission to help people by baking them into pies is great in theory. However, I don't think the concept was as well executed as it could've been. 

This was the first of Carrie's books that I've read, and it hasn't left me wanting to read more.

            i'm surprised at how much i really enjoyed it! i was able to get used to CHF's writing style after like, the first two chaptersish and i also think it picked up quite a bit afterwards. i loved the amount of subtle diversity there too; like characters' identities weren't ALL that they were, simply a part of it. it was so normalized and so wonderful. i felt like the ending was a little bit rushed, and i wish that we got to know more about the endings for all the characters, but overall i loved it! the only thing i'm a little EH about is how anxiety/depression/"obsession" is described, but i really did enjoy this book!

This is the first of Carrie's books that I've read (I've been a fan since she began her run as Eponine in Les Mis on the West End) and while there were aspects that I enjoyed, I'm not sure if I would find myself compelled to pick up another one of her books.

I'll start by saying that I love the premise behind this book. I love the creativity and the whimsicality behind the idea. The idea that this young woman can see everyone's bad feelings and decides to open a bakery and infuse good feelings in her treats to help the people in her town is a lovely idea, and I think there was a lot that this book could've been. The description led me to believe that it would be much for magical and fanciful then it ended up being. It just fell a little flat.

Everything was very descriptive, but almost in an overly simplified way. The writing came off as very surface level to me, which is very strange considering the book completely centers around a young woman who can see feelings. The writing also felt a little juvenile in some parts. 

Cherry is a sweet character. She's kind and caring and bubbly, just want you would expect that main character in a book like this to be. My main issue was, I felt no connection to her. I felt for her with what she went through in her youth/teen years and appreciated how she found the strength in herself to over come her "meddlums" and decided to help others, but again there just was something missing there for me to feel completely connected with her.

I didn't really feel a connection with any of the other characters either, and so much of this book was based on human emotions and connections, and when that is what your book is centered around, and the readers don't feel that, that is an issue for me. I think part of that comes down to the editing. I think it could've used a closer look from an editor and maybe took a few things out and changed some things. Again, a lot of it felt like the descriptions of the emotions and situations were over explained, but by using all the same words/phrases. 

I thought the first half of the book was much better than the second. I breezed through the first half in one day, even with the things that bothered me about the book, I felt like continuing to read it. The second half though felt like a completely different book and one that I didn't really like at that. In my opinion once she and Chase really started to 'compete' with one another, that's when it started to go south for me. Their romance was so rushed. One minute they hated each other and then the next they were talking about how they couldn't live without each other. I know that they found common ground and were so relieved to find that in each other, but I mean, come on? We didn't see them fall for each other. We saw them hate each other and then decide they couldn't live without each other. I found myself rolling my eyes a lot when there was any mention about their romance. 

I also found it very predictable. All the moments that were supposed to be reveals or shockers I saw coming a mile away and when it happened I just said "Yup, I knew it"

Also, where did the swearing come from in the second half?? It all felt SO out of character for Cherry and Chase a little bit too.

Again, I think Carrie had a great premise. I think I would've enjoyed it more if the entire book stayed more in vein with the first half of the book, if the idea was a little more developed and if the book had a better editor.

My opinion of this one is kind of muddled. I wanted to love it, but I couldn't quite get there. I did like it, but also like, meh? An improvement over On the Other Side (because I never even finished that one), but I'm not sure. I loved the beginning, and it wasn't really until the character Happy came into it that I felt like it started going downhill for me. I started getting bored while reading it, but at the same time I wanted to know what happened, so my feelings were clearly a mess. If only Cherry and Chase could have told me what they were.

I have very much enjoyed reading about Cherry Redgrave and Chase Masters. I really loved the concept of emotions being visible to the eye. That they are so real they take form. This was such a unique and creative story and I enjoyed every bit of it.

Cherry Redgrave, the book’s main character, spends her life thinking that she is the only one who can see creatures called ‘meddlums’, that represent people’s bad emotions, until she meets Chase and The Guild. This book by Carrie Hope Fletcher taught me that even though our emotions can often make us feel bad, without them we wouldn’t realise the good in our lives.
